Okay, I received the fuel pump and wiring harness from Rock Auto today. One question, how does the fuel line connector release from the outlet line ? It's a '92 HR on a '91 F53 chassis.

Spray WD-40 in to the connection to lube the "O" ring.
Twist the fuel hose to brake the "O" ring free from the tube.
Push the hose in and while holding it in put the tool around the tube and push it all the way in to release the fingers.
While holding the tube all the way in pull the hose off (free).

The hoses are two different sizes so you can not mix them up.
To put the hose on just push it on until it clicks.

The tools:

CAUTION:
Fuel supply lines on vehicles with fuel injected engines will remain pressurized for long periods of time after engine shut-down. The pressure must be relieved.
CAUTION:
Discharge fuel system before disconnecting coupling.

Suford, is there another way to release the connector, I don't have "the tool".
Or is it one of those you can barrow from Auto Zone ?

Now you are going to have to help out on this one as you have a 1991 and I do not know for sure the type of connector that you have on your fuel tanks.
Ford has used three types of connectors from the 80's through the 90's and 1991 is a year I am not 100% on.

Please report back with the type used on 1991 F53 to help others out and we like photos of the connectors and the job.
If you can not post photos just email them to me and I will post them for you. Email address is at the bottom of this post.

You do not use a tool with the hair pin push on pull off type connector that you may have, image below.

But if you have the finger or garter spring connector as seen in the fuel tank R&R link below then yes you have to have the tool to remove the fuel line.
The set of tools in the image above is under $20.00 at any auto parts store. And yes they may rent them.
The R&R link:

The hair pin push on pull off type connector:

The finger type removed without the tool:

The garter spring:

Thanks subford, I sent you a picture of the top of the tank. I'm pretty sure it's the hair pin style as I explained in the e-mail.

Thanks.

In the above post #2 the statement:
"While holding the tube all the way in pull the hose off (free).
Should have read:
"While holding the TOOL all the way in pull the hose off (free)".

This is some great information. I will save this in my “YOU MAY HAVE TO DO THIS SOME DAY FILE”.
Looks like you can pick up the fuel ling disconnect set for about $13.00 Lisle LI37000 - Lisle Air Conditioning/Fuel Line Disconnect Tool Sets - Overview - SummitRacing.com
Another investment for my tool box! DW loves it when I need a new tool!

From you guys who know – Is there any indication / symptom that shows up before the pump craps out or does it just go belly up?

In my case the pump is working strong, the problem is it won't hold fuel pressure while setting. In order to start the engine I cycle the key on and off 5 to 6 times to let the pump get fuel to the engine then it starts and runs as good as it ever did. subford is big help on this subject !
