Had a tough day today......

So I had both 02 sensors replace recently and today I went to the Smog Test
station. After waiting in line for 20 minutes, I am next in line to pull into the
building....YEA!!!
Suddenly there is a very loud screeching/squeeling coming from the front of
the MH, so I just touch the throttle and sure enough, the sound changes with
the engine RPM.
Then I turn off the engine, wait 10 seconds and start it back up, oh wait, it
won't start, just makes a clicking noise. (insert naughty word here)
I had that starter replaced about a year ago...
So they have to get the cars in line behind me to move to different lanes
so I can coast back to the rear of the parking lot.
Wait for 90 minutes for tow truck to show up, hooks up MH and ties
driveshaft up out of the way, he tows me to repair shop. Same repair shop
that put all new brakes and master cylinder on MH this week.
We arrive at repair shop, tow truck driver looks under MH and informs me and
repair shop owner that we lost the driveshaft. Shop owner and I jump in his
pickup and go looking for driveshaft, find it about 3 miles away. Shop owner
says will need new U-joints for sure, he will send it out to make sure it's not
damaged or bent. Tow truck driver says they will take care of costs of
driveshaft.

And how was your day.....

I actually felt better reading your post.

I've had my share of problems but so far, have not been stranded or towed, (I guess they go together don't they).

Anyway, my best to you and hope this is the last trip to the shop for you for a year or two, (would appreciate a reciprocal wish).

I would make sure that tow company covers the cost of all repairs to the driveshaft and U-joint replacement as they were negligent in not securing it properly for the tow.

Please keep us posted on the squealing, and engine no-start issue, OK??

Thanks,

The tow truck driver assured me that his company would take care of any
problems with the driveshaft, repair or total replacement if needed.
Hey, at least I get new u-joints out of it...

That's a BAD day.

Reminds me of the thread that was just started titled "Some Days You're the Windshield... and Some Days You're the Bug".

Hope all goes well with the repairs.

I read the post about "windshield or bug", makes my problems sound trivial...

Talked to the repair shop yesterday and about the only parts they are using
again on my driveshaft is the yokes on the ends. Had to cut it apart and
replace the tube, and of course the u-joints.
The tow company is paying for everything driveshaft related, no problem there.
Should get it back by Tuesday morning, new starter and all....

Our original plan was to leave earlier this week, that ship has sailed...

Am picking up MH in the morning.
No charges at all, tow company paid for driveshaft and NAPA replaced the starter and paid for labor.
May actually get out of here next week.
Heading to smog test in morning, hope is goes better than last time....

I sure hope your troubles are over ! I know the feeling when it dawns on you that something is seriously wrong and it could cost some big $$$ That feeling sends shivers down my back and makes me break out in a sweat

If all goes well take a break and relax with your favorite beverage in a safe spot and let the stress slip away

Glad it's nearly over. Sometimes we need to take a few deep breaths... hitch up our pants... smile, and just go on.

Good luck with the smog.

Last time out we were fully loaded, all seven cats, one grandkid and DW, dolly and towed on. Went to start the engine and not even a click!! Friday about noon BTW.
Had installed new house and starting batteries about two months earlier so it wasn't them.
Got Coach Net to send a wrecker after they found a shop that could work on it right away. Towed to the FL shop, they said it would be a week before they could even look at it. Denied ever telling Coach Net they could work on it right away.
Tow truck driver called and found another shop 16 miles away that could get it in right away and work on it Monday. I have worked with them before and knew they could do what they said. Coach Net authorized the add'l tow. They put it right in one of their bays and I hooked it up to elec. Unloaded what we needed to and went home. By just after midnight (actually Sat morning about 12:15 am) they were done!!
$1006 for the new starter and towing was another $700 (thanks to Coach Net I didn't have to pay this).
Oh yes, they somehow destroyed my electrical cord (100' 12 Ga extension). Called and they said to bring the cord in. They took my word that it was done there and replaced it with a new one without too much said other than wondering how it happened. I think the driver that took it out of the shop didn't disconnect it first.
