Heads up display HUD

Recently I have seen several ads for HUD systems that plug into the OBDII connector. Most of these are shown laid on the dash and showing the info on the windshield. In many light conditions (most of the time actually) I cannot see the speedo, gas gauge, tach without a concerted effort. Has anyone tried one of these units. I have seen other comments of others having the same problem, adding lights etc..

I had one of these in my 93 Pontiac SSEI and loved it. This would be a perfect addition to my mh as typically I can only see about half of my dash board without leaning way forward. I'll keep this post handy and watch for any replies.

Ron

PS. FWIW, it's actually called a Head up display....as you only have one head.

On my 2003 f53 I bought one of the HUD and it did not work right. Put it in my cars no issues. If someone has one to barrow to you try it that way first. Or if you have a car that needs one if it doesn't work on the RV.

Did it just not work, or were the visuals poor?

It showed like a boot screen and locked up.

There are a couple iPhone apps that will give you HUD. Some just provide speed while other provide GPS data.

I had an old K5 Blazer when I lived in Alaska with a bad speedo, I used the iPhone app until I got the speedo fixed.

Just add some led lights to the dash to help with the piss poor lighting that "F" put on their dashes. Here is what it looks like:

No led lights: http://www.irv2.com/photopost/showfull.php?photo=26602

Here is with LED's http://www.irv2.com/photopost/showfull.php?photo=26603

I haven't tried it yet. I have an OBDCII connector and Torque Pro on an Android tablet. It has the capability to do a HUD display on the windshield but I think it is easier to velcro the tablet to the dash and display it right from the tablet. I am thinking the windshield is too straight up and down vs a car having a slanted windshield.
I also had a HUD on a 90's Grand Prix.

I remember seeing that posted but could not find it. Can you send a link to your original "how to" post?

I did a quick search of HUD systems and I found this one for around $50.00.

Safe travels. JD

Thanks, that one seems to be marketed by several companies. some of the ads say they won't work in trucks, but no explanation. Seems like OBDII would be the only criteria, they might be referring to Diesel. English grammar little iffy so that might be it.

To make a HUD work in my class A, it would have to be near the passenger seat headrest, well no quite, but certainly not on the dash.

There can also be issues with double reflections on some windshields as the two layers of glass each reflect an image. Heard of this where folks swapped a HUD dash into a car where it didn't belong. Not quite sure how they get around this on cars that have a HUD.
