Help locating Power Steering Pump 98 Allegro

Hello there! We've just purchased our 1st RV from a private seller. We've never even got to use it because after it was delivered when we started the engine we heard a squealing noise. Thinking it was the belt we had a friend change the belt thinking that the seller just used a belt dressing to mask the sound when we test drove. Ultimately it was over our friends head and now it is at a mechanic shop and we're being told it's the power steering pump. We're being told that the part is obsolete. Can anyone pass along where we can search for a power steering pump for a Ford F-53 chassis for our 1998 Allegro?
Looking forward to traveling in our starter motor home and one day trading up to a newer model if we can ever get this one on the road. We've got a lot to learn about RV-ing and excited to find this forum to gain knowledge and like minded friends in the RV world! Thanks in advance for any help in locating this part for our RV!

Have you tried NAPA or other auto parts store? Or a wrecking yard. And welcome to the forum.

Unless the pump is locked up or is only making the noise when you turn the steering wheel I dough that there is anything wrong with your power steering pump or its belt.

Most of the time when the battery is not fully charge the 460 with the 130 amp alternator the belt will make a noise until the battery is charged back up.

F53, v10 or v8 ? I doubt that the power steering pump is locked up and they are not obsolete.

Ford did not make a 98 F53 chassis. So you have a 97 or 99 chassis and as already noted V8 (97) or V10 (99).

Those Ford pumps are notorious for being noisy. Sometimes a fluid change will quite them down (sounds to easy to work but I have done it) You take a turkey baster, or something similar and pull as much of the old fluid out and replace with new fluid, Get true Power steering fluid, not just ATF and it helps a bunch.

Like others have said, the pumps are pretty generic from Ford. If it is bad, a replacement should not be hard to obtain through NAPA or most any auto parts store willing to do the work to look it up or at worst MATCH it up. Hardest part of the job is you will most likely have to remove the pump pulley in order to remove the pump and it requires a special puller, which is sold/rented at most auto parts stores pretty cheap.

Good luck

The PS pump on a F53 is NOT the generic pump found on most other Ford products. The pump operates with an external reservoir and used a different case and mounting.

Should not be hard to find, it is a ZF PS pump.
Part number may be E8HT-3A674-AA.
MGF part number may be 7673900103.

Check the MFG part number on the unit to be replaced.
