Good luck.
Lt46, thanks. Do you happen to remember some details of your original cable and the new one? (P\N, photos, etc)

Was it anything like this one?

Some choices for other folks that may have this common problem:

There is an ebay offer for a replacement. Says for a '97 but may work for others: https://www.ebay.com/itm/FORD-F53-F6...-/322745589223.

This also may be a help:F53 Transmission Shifter Cable

Paalex, my scenario involved the 460/7.5L 97 F53, your's looks like the V10 and have a different end at the trans.
My discussions and repair notes can be found on this site, dated 7/9/16 under the heading "Tranny shift cable." My experience with cablecrafter was a positive one and they proved to be very knowledgable in tranny cables. It's quite possible they'll be able to set you up. Best of luck

Lt46, what was the cable cost for you.
I'm getting quotes in the range of $200-$280 (stainless steel components the more expensive option) for the cable alone, no work included. That's for an authorized Cablecraft dealer.

Does it make any sense?
Quite a bit more expensive than I hoped for a cable, especially since I know there would be additional work to make it fit since it's not an exact replacement.

paalax, in 2016 I paid $189.00 for the cable so the price has gone up a bit. When I was looking (2 months) they were the only game in town that would make it up. My p/n was 314 VTT 3-108 and had ball snap on connectors on both ends. Your shifter looks to be the same (ball, snap-on connector) but the tranny end looks different (from your picture). If it too is a ball snap-on connector then I can see no reason for cablecraft can't make it up for you. BTW, the ebay listing above looks exactly like the cable I purchased.

Your help is much appreciated.
On the tranny end there's also a ball-snap-on behind those plastic parts. They are used to calibrate\tune the shift handle with the tranny (which I would probably have to tweak somehow to get the P,R,N,D,2,1 to match correctly).

From the looks of it, I don't think I can unscrew the original 'ball' part, and screw-in the new one. Doesn't look like there's a thread there (I would climb down there and have another look).
In the meantime, I wrapped my ruptured cable with some Propoxy to make my 'temporary' hack less temporary :\

Some close-ups of my cable. Hope would help someone

lunchmoney,

Your last post was 1/26/ 2016! It would be nice if you'd let posters who took a lot of time to give you tons of ideas and pictures how you finally resolved your shifter cable issue. That information might/would help others down the road.

Paalex, I did not have to replace the ball stud on the shifter or tranny end. Look at the picture in the eBay listing above, at the end of the cable you see what looks like a threaded bolt, look closer and you can see that bolt is the ball stud. It simply pulls out of the cable snap-on end. No need to replace anything.
