Just bought it - now what?

Hi gang. We just bought our first RV, a 2006 Winnebago, E450 6.8L V-10, Outlook with 51,000 miles on it. Overall, the RV seems to be in great shape and I think the owners generally took good care of it.

Unfortunately, it did not come with any service records. I know the tires, oil and filter, and batteries were changed about 9 months ago but have no history of anything else on the chassis. I am a fairly qualified do-it-yourselfer, but don't have any specific truck tools. What recommendations would you make for me to do at this time? I am thinking transmission fluid at the least.

Is there a link available so I can find out the service intervals on this machine?

Thanks!

Genset onboard? I would have the oil and filter changed, make a note of the hours at change, rinse repeat in another 300 hours.

Go over everything, establish a service baseline since you don't have one.

Inspect serpentine belt, change if any doubt
Lube chassis
Check the dates on all tires
Weigh the coach, set tire air pressures accordingly
Check dates on all batteries
Ensure wet batteries have water
Clean all battery terminals
Check converter is charging
Check engine alternator is charging

Change:
transmission fluid
fuel filter, engine and genny
Air filter, engine and genny
Oil and oil filter, engine and genny
Brake fluid
Batteries in smoke and co2 alarms

Try everything in the house, on both shore and battery/inverter power

One of my top to-do's for a "New to You" motorhome is to get up on the roof with a tube of self leveling RV caulk and look for ANY potential leak areas. Particularly around vents, antenna mounts, etc that go through the roof. Even the tiniest hairline crack can cause you a lot of grief during a day long thunderstorm. (Don't ask me how I know!) If in doubt, caulk it! Congrats on the new rig!

I think I would add... Sanitize the water tank and system.

And if it were my first rig, I'd install a full R/O system!

Thanks - I'll sanitize it today.

What is an R/O system?

Reverse osmosis. You do not need it unless you have really crappy water. Some places do, most have other options that are cheaper and smaller.
