DL441,
John,
I think you're correct in that quote being a little high. The price on the spring sets seems to be OK. If you were to attempt it yourself one will need some stout sockets and/or a good 1/2" or 3/4" air impact wrench. If you can't find one you could do it with a 3/4" ratchet with a cheater bar. And of course some good safety stands and jacks. I've got all that stuff but a lot of people don't. You could use a hydraulic bottle jack. I bought a 20 Ton one from HF for about $50. I used it to lift my house so I know it'd work.

The job is straight forward and not complicated but because it's truck they want more $$$. I'd do it myself to avoid the high cost of the labor but that's just me. You can see that there are only 4 bolts that hold the spring on to the axle and the two bolts through the eye of the spring. The spring can't be put in wrong because there's a pin and an alignment hole that will assure that it's put back in the correct position.

Get some other quotes.

Quite often you will need to cut an access hole to remove the spring eye and/or shackle bolts, as the MH manufacturer builds compartment walls etc. preventing easy removal. Also don't be surprised if the steering wheel position changes as leaning and corner height changes the thrust angle of the rear axle, and the F-53 chassis doesn't have an adjustment to center the steering wheel, it requires re-positioning the steering wheel or coupler on the splined shaft.

Our '07 Tiffin Allegro, on the same chassis, also leaned. You didn't need a tape measure to see it, it was obvious. When I brought it up, while still under warranty, I was told "it is within specs". Other than looking odd, we never had any other handling or tire wear problems.
