Leaning to the right

I have a 2007 Georgetown 350DS it leans to the right all the time. i have checked the tire pressures and all good. could it be a shock or a leaf spring. they are both stock I think, just bought this motor home 6 months ago. The distance between top of tire and body is about 2 inches different from side to side. Thanks for any help.

You need to get a '4 corner weigh'. If you weigh front and back, then side to side, you might find that the right side is heavier than the left. Shifting cargo might help if that's the case.

It also will allow you to set tire pressures. You said 'tire pressures all good.' How did you determine this?

If there is not a weight or tire pressure issue. It is possible to have a broke leaf in the spring. Look at where it is bolted together for a leaf with a crack in the metal. If so look for a local heavy duty/truck spring shop.

Many Flying Js do have scales, but not sure if they can do the side to side measure you really need to diagnose lean. Once you get axle weights, if you look on the tire manufacturer website you'll find tables that will match axle weight to tire pressure. The sticker next to driver's seat and the dealer's suggestion as to pressure is a guess at best.

It seems that is common with F53 chassis. I have two. The 1999 leans about 1 1/2" to the right and the 2003 2" to the right. I put AirLift air bags on the 1999 and it corrects the lean with 90# in right air bags and 30# in left side air bags. I may put an extra leaf on both the front and rear leaf springs of the 2003.

I used a local interstate scale to get mine down on 4 corners. Called the troopers ahead on when to do it. They said weekend.

My left side was much heavier than the right. Local truck shop used spacers between front axle and springs to get it to level.

Do you find with the different pressures in the air bags that the coach wants to sway?

No, it handles perfectly. Made a big difference on going around slow corners.

This seems common in the F-53. Mine was down 3.5". I took it to a good spring shop and they made a leaf of the right tension and no more problem.

DL411,
You've got the correct idea. Find a shop that knows what they are doing. I don't know you're background so I'll answer as you don't know what's involved.
If a spring is sagging it has been overloaded and permanently bent or just lost it's ability to return to it's original sprung position. I don't know how that can happen but I guess it does. When I was first teaching some guys would talk about having springs re-arched. I guess the the sagged position can be changed. I don't know if they can guarantee that the spring won't return back to the straight position or not? That would be a question to ask. Leaf springs are hardened/tempered. Ever try drilling a hole in one??? Don't unless you have a special drill.

What ever a shop decided to do just adding another spring may level the coach but make that side stiffer. Therefore it will ride differently. I'd get a quote on replacing the suspect spring and also the same spring on the other side as well to assure that they are both supporting the same amount of weight. Just a thought.

Let us know what you/they decide so we can add the information to our pool of knowledge.

Thanks and good luck with the lean.

I had to bring my wife to St Cloud, MN for a medical procedure. On the way into town I saw a billboard sign for husky Springs. I called them about my F53 leaning 2" to the passenger side. They said they could fix it. It would be about $100 per spring if they had to use 1/2" spring stock or $85 to $90 if they could use 7/16" or less. Asked them how much total with installation. They said the don't do the R&R only build the spring pack. They recommended Joe's Auto and Truck a couple blocks away. Joe's said it would be $600 to $700 and they would need the motor home for two days. Seems pretty Expensive to R&R two springs.
