Lifespan of 2001 F53 Engine

Any one have a guesstimate on the life of a 2001 F53 chassis, specifically the engine. Ours has 101,500 miles on it. New tranny last year, new diff in 2012. Has been well-maintained with all new belts, hoses, tune-up, etc recently.

Thanks for your input.

I don't think any number can be put on the maximum mileage, too many variables. To get an idea, have an engine oil analysis done and a compression/leak down test. Those tests will give a better idea as to wear and lifetime left without a rebuild.

If you go to some of the Ford truck forums you'll see many of the members have 200,000+ miles on their vehicles. There was a recent article about UPS switching many of their smaller trucks to V10 powered Fords on the F59 commercial chassis. During their test period most of them went over 250,000 miles without serious problems.

We had about 110,000 on our 2001 Winnebago on the F53 chassis when we traded it in. The engine and the transmission were still going strong. The main reason for trading it off was that we weren't sure how much longer the appliances and entertainment systems would last. The TV's and satellite dish were already out of date, and it didn't seem prudent to stuff a ton of money in a 12+ year old coach and expect it to go another 100,000 miles without problems.

As a side note I got a call from the couple that bought our motorhome a few months after we traded it off. They were happy with the condition and performance and intended to put another 100,000 miles on it. Since they got it at about 25% of the original price they figured they could put some money into it along the way.

Our 15 year old 2000 v10 powered coach now has 91,000 miles and runs great. With proper care & maintenance I expect it to last well in excess of 200,000 miles.

Transmission gets serviced every 30,000 miles and engine oil & filter changed between 5 & 7,000 miles using Mobil 1 full synthetic extended service oil. Chassis lubed at every oil change.
