I had a very reliable shop that did the work locally, but any warranty was basically void, being unsupported.

There might even be a realtionship between a LA exporter and a local LA area auto dismantler...dismantler's sometimes sell used/running parts. The 2valve V10 is in thousands of F and E-series trucks and vans...worth the research to save some money(?).

The description of the damage to the OP's block sounds like a write-off. Anything man made can be fixed, but will it be as good as a certified remanufactured block?

There is no reason to get a new FOMOCO crate engine. A reman is usually just as good for a repair. New "Crate engines" (not a reman in a crate) are often used when doing a change in type/size engine.

If used/running is not possible, I would shop for a reman of the same size/age and write the check.

Best luck
Buy & get the engine installed by & from a Ford Dealer-that will give you a warranty that also covers replacement Labor. Call several Ford dealers, get the best price, & go with it. New, Rebuilt- does not matter if Ford guarantees it-choose between New or Rebuilt by cost & how long you will keep it. Do not forget about the option of trading for another Motorhome- you might be surprised.

As pointed out above what I am trying to do at this stage is to see what my options are.
Just to review, the OP and his RV are in Tasmania
He reports a lack of US style trucks there and no Factory support for the Triton V10
