Congratulations on the new rig. Best of luck with it.
I use a progressive Industries Electronic Monitoring System 50 amp portable I plug it into the supply and let it check the status before I plug the MH into it. I've read horror stories of damage caused by a faulty neutral wire at the box
EMS-PT50C
You might also look at the 5 Star Tune for your V-10. I just installed it in my Damon and the difference in power and the shifting schedule was a real eye opener.

The 9th digit in the vin is the year of manufacture. Have had two V-10's so far and never a problem. Both were in a 2004 MH which is a 2003 chassis. As mentioned in prior posts problems were before 2000.

I think one of the mistakes we all make sometimes, is trying to figure our mileage on a single trip. These are big tanks and it is easy to be off by several gallons when you top off. Keep track of your gallons and miles over a number of fill-ups and you will get a much better picture.

My write up on the purchase and installation of the 5 Star Tune can be found here: 5 Star Tune
Most people don't realize any significant increase in mileage. I calculated my 2800 mile trip to be 7.28mpg. I weighed it as I left on my trip and I weighed in at 22,800 pounds. I averaged around 7 on previous trips so maybe there was a slight increase.
Mike at 5 Star believes (as I do now) that there might possibly be a more significant increase but with the newly found pulling power, us drivers tend to run harder.
I was pulling up the long hills of the Appalachians through Tennessee at 60 plus at 3200 RPM in cruise control!!!!!!!!! I could NEVER have done that before installing this tune. I was actually able to take advantage of my cruise control for most of the trip without having once shifted down into the 4,000 RPM gear ratio. Hills where I would normally drop to 45mph I was pulling at 60 plus.
Life behind the wheel is worlds away from where it was.

Actually the 10th number or letter will identify the year of the vehicle...
Locate the 10th digit in the VIN. This is the digit that identifies the vehicle year model. Starting with the 2001 year model, the year digit began with the number "1." The numbers were issued in an ascending sequence until the 2010 year model, when the beginning of the alphabet was used. Models from 2010 are represented by the letter "A." Prior to 2001, the 10th digit was represented by the alphabet in descending order. Models from 2000 were listed as "Y" and 1999 models were represented as "X."

I believe I read somewhere, that the V10 head problems were not fully corrected until the 06 year models with 362 HP.
98/99/2000 years, had the 4 thread plug holes, then 01 they had 8 threads, but the plug seating angle cut into the head was cut wrong, wrong angle, so you ended up with the plug not seating correctly even with the proper amount of torque & plugs blowing out. Out of all the questions or threads about this on motorhomes, I've only read maybe 5~6 had a plug to blow out or responded on a site they had it happen.
Out of all the V10 engines in pickup trucks & F 53 chassis, there were very few in the F 53 motorhomes had plug problems, but god help the pickup trucks folks.
I have a 99 V10, which is 98 chassis with over 53000 & no problems, but dont know if prev owner had anything changed to the plugs.
Neil
