New tires and alignment

I found several threads to add too but they were to old so I'm starting another.
I'm in Florida so most things cost more here. I plan on doing this next Saturday. Here is my breakdown:

Michelin 245/70R19.5 XZE $357.26 each x 6 - $2143.56
Dis-mount, remove, install, valve stems, mount - $57.00 each x6-$328.00
Alignment - $259.00
Tax - $192.00
Total - $2922.00

2013 Thor Hurricane 34F, 35' 6" length, on original/factory Good Year tires now - 28,000 miles/6 years old, front tires are wearing more on outside and hitting the tread marks for replacement

I also have a Safe-T-plus unit installed.

I don't want to take any chances. I want to be safe.

Let me know what you think of the prices above.

just checked and saw the same size for sale at walmart.com for $382. don't know about the rest but the PPT is good.

that's what we have. love 'em. 8^)

Just bought new Roadmaster RM170's for my Hurricane. Load range G. They seem to be very good and economical at about $200 each. Made by Cooper

Sounds fair. However, it might be worth it to join FMCA and get the Michelin Advantage pricing. I'd go ahead and look into it.

I had the XZE's on my Sunova, was very happy with the tire. Solid ride, we took the coach to Florida (3000 miles round trip) for 2 weeks and were very happy.

Tire Pressure Question now

Previously I had each side of my axle weighed at Josam and they told me I could run 80-85 PSI in all six tires. Now that I have new Michelin tires I need to go by the book so the Michelin warranty will cover me in the unlikely event I need Michelin to replace a tire. They told me all tires would be set to 95 PSI.

I was told by the Manager I needed to run 95 PSI which is what is on the plate inside the coach. The tire has 110 PSI. He told me the what was on the tire is different from what I needed to run. He said the inside plate from the manufacturer (as long as I get the same size tires which I did) is what the tires need to be set too.

I put my tire monitoring system back on the tires today and one tire indicated 120 PSI and all the others indicated 110 PSI. Now that I'm completely confused what do I need to set the air pressure to? 95 or 100 PSI?

Something so simple can be made so complex so quickly....

You need to check your pressure when the tires are cold. The 110# on the tire is the maximum pressure cold. Verify tire pressure cold and adjust by adding or releasing until 95#. Your tire monitor may also be off, use a good pressure tester to verify the monitor.

IMO if they want you to run 95psi your coach must be really loaded. But I'll leave that alone.

As far as your list above the pricing looks really good to me. Tough to beat and especially if it's all done in one shop. After they align, be sure to get a copy of the alignment printout for future reference and keep with your maintenance records.

Thank you. I do have a copy of the alignment. It was all done in one shop last Saturday. Used my FMCA Michelin benefit discount. The coach was loaded but I don't think they weighed it. The weight was done two years ago at Josam (truck shop in Orlando). I just don't want to do anything and Michelin not help me should there be an issue.

You should go by the Michelin inflation guide for your specific tires and the weight of your axles. Personally, I add 5% but that's me. You should only go by the placard inside if it matches your weight, which it probably doesn't. The print on the side of the tires just tells you what the maximum capability is. PS: I would rely on Michelin tire engineers over anyone in a tire shop or on the internet.

Can't you go to a CAT scale for 11 bucks?

Tire pressure is a linear equation based on psi per pound of weight carried.
If you found out your axle carried 10000 lbs, and had 4 tires you could figure 2500 pounds per tire.

Then do the tire math. The tire can hold 4600 lbs at 110 psi. 110/4600=.023 X 2500 (weight on tire)= 59.78 lbs of air.
That would hold the weight and not cause the tires to wear out in the center from overinflation.

Since these tires age out rather than wear, I'd run 90 and not look back.
