I have 2011 Bay Star with V 10 engine and 4000 miles. I have a acceleration problem. After driving for long distance (without problem) and then stopping for a half hour or so, it will starve for fuel when entering a freeway on ramp. If you floorboard, it will just die. But if you feather the peddle, it will finally reach speed and not falter again.
It's not like the old 460 problem, which would starve for fuel once the problem started. On this one, once you reach speed, it runs like a clock. It's just that initial acceleration problem. From then on you can acceleate as much as you want.

Well, check some easy stuff first. Make sure things like vacuum hoses haven't popped loose and the MAF sensor is plugged in. Its a bit early for an EGR valve to be gunked up, but you could check that too.

Yea, but the fuel has to get to the injectors. I'd guess a fuel line is routed too close to the exhaust someplace along the line? I'd try to trace it from the tank forward. It may have originally been placed out of harms way but not properly secured?
Good luck.

I have had the same issue on my '99 Pace Arrow, but I thought it was normal, trying to get the 22,000 lbs. moving.
I just adjusted to it-but if it's an issue I guess I should have it looked into.
Once or twice it scared the heck out of me (Tole Booth in Kansas)

Have you run a diagnostic check to see if it's thrown any trouble codes? You might start there.
I had a 90 Ford Aerostar with similar symptoms and it turned out to be a faulty TPS (throttle position sensor/switch) which I replaced to resolve the problem.

Thanks for the replies. This a.m., I going to pick it up, drive and see if I can get it to do it again. Dealer will then send a mechanic out with me. Hard to find intermittent problems -- frustrating. It sure sounds like a vapor lock-type problem to me, too. I will ask if they looked for a line close to the exhaust or manifold.

Ask them to check the fuel pressure regulator. I had a faulty regulator that caused an overly rich condition and stalling after a hot soak restart.

I always started with the easy stuff first. I woud change the fuel filter first. Our shop found a lot of fuel problems with water or rust in the filter. The rust is not what most people think of as rust. It is not big fat chunks. It is very fine particals. Like very small pieces of sand. Either one can partially block the filter.

I had a car like that once (Carb type, not injected) turns out the fuel line had "Got Religion" (It was Holy don't you know, or is that holEy) I replaced it and all was good.
I doubt that is your problem, epically since Fuel Injected engines I suspect would not run well at all with holey fuel lines.. But I learned to fix 'em in the days before EFI.

2011 Fords do not have fuel pressure regulators. Fuel pressure is computer controlled.
Monitoring fuel pressure during an event like this can be helpful in diagnosing the problem. Fuel rail temperature can also be monitored.

Since it is a 2011 I would take it back to the dealer and let them fix it.

I agree with you completely. However, the dealer was cooperative but was unable to duplicate the malady; the computer did not post a fault code so could not ID the problem. I, then, took it out to try to duplicate the problem but was unable to do it myself. I live in the NW and it has been cold so I guess I will wait until it gets hot and try again. Pretty frustrating.
