On my 2004 Fleetwood it is to the right side of the steering column, tucked back pretty far. I think by law they need to be pretty accessible and close to the steering wheel.

Yes, has to be within a foot of the steering column. Look between the column and the dashboard opening. Tucked in there is the connector that has a cover on it.

On my 1999 Southwind, it was hard to find...

Mine had a cover on it and it was mounted high up on the passenger side of the steering column.

I couldn't see it from underneath. The dash / instrument panel on my Southwind is hinged. When I raised the instrument panel I finally found it looking down from the top..

I bought a 18 inch OBCII extension cable and plugged that into it, so its now easy to access the connector..

Right. the final position of the port is determined by the body builder. When delivered by ford, the port is held to the steering tower by two screws. The port has a two foot long wiring harness so the body builder can move it to a accessible position according to the dash installation.
On my Pace Arrow, I did not like the position of the port, so I took out the two screws and moved it to a more accessible place.

Coach manufacturer should have re-located it as they installed the dash board.

Two screws and you can put it where you can get at it.

Sent my 9 year old grandson under the dash to find mine. He bends better than I do.

I'm sure some would see that as child abuse .

Maybe give him a 1/4" nut driver next time and re-mount it where you can get at it, ..... before he becomes a teenager ... you know what their like.
