I have a 1999 F53 under my Rexhall Aerbus. The OBD connector under the dash looks like it is OBD2, but my web searching says that heavy duty trucks in 1999 only had OBD1. Does anyone know what mine would have and if any DIY scanners would read it?
Thanks.

Jeff, you might want to call Linear Logic LLC who manufactures & sells the Scan Gauge II and perhaps they could answer your question.
Here's their toll free phone #:888 433-5664
Good Luck,

I also have a 1999 chassis and it has an OBD II connector. I have a ScanGuage II and it works great. Any Ford OBD II code reader should work.

Thanks for the info. The ScanGauge looks cool, so I've ordered one and now I'm looking forward to seeing how it works.

You will love your Scan Gauge II. I have saved myself hundreds of $ on "nuisance codes" on my 1999 F-53, and probably even more by watching the MPG and adjusting my driving and shifting habits. The '99 F-53 is ODB-II.

An 88 should use eecIV engine cont sys. you may find this on an emissions decal under hood. A pre obd2 scanner with proper cables can be used or with detailed info an old school volt meter or test light may be used and the flashes or sweeps deciphered.

thanks Auto seen by your past posts you can help..this 88 460 has 74k on it and somewher in the past it looks like they took off the oil cooler ac cooler and can't tell if it had a tranny cooler or not..i like the talk of the Scan guage tool ..is there something similar for the older engine..i looked at the aftermarket coolers and ran into a nascar owner selling off some stuff and i picked up a box of modine coolers and a couple of units he made up. one had been a fan cooled differential cooler that i am fixin to mount under the hood drivers side moving the cruise control unit over..the oil cooler is pretty deep but i swedged that in front of the radiator piping it off of the "oem"?? oil filter adapter..and it seems to cool it down by touch i can notice the difference..but i would really love to tech it up a little and hook up some guages..and that's why the scan tool looked cool..what are your thoughts
