Hey guys, just picked up our new MH this past Friday. Its the Ford F53 and its got about 2100 miles on it. I want to start its life off on a good footing and want to change the oil. I figure oil changes are cheap insurance for the long run.

What weight, type and brand are you guys using in your V-10's?

Thanks in advance for the info!

Duane

I use 5W-20 synthetic oil in my V-10 which is what Ford recommends. I prefer Royal Purple oil.

Mobil 1 5w/30 full synthetic in our 2000 v10. Ford later issued a TSB recommending 5w/20 for a tad better fuel mileage which you will never see--LOL

5W-20 per Ford recommendation. I use Mobil 1 and change any time up to 4000-5000 miles, but usually 3000 miles or less because I change Spring and Fall regardless of miles.

I right now use Motorcraft 5-20 blend and now have 27k miles. I am thinking of going to Mobile 1 Extended Performance 5-20 synthetic mostly because I go from NH to CA every year and I change the oil right now ever 3k. The extended performance recomends up to 15k or 1 year. This should take me the 7k+ miles without a problem. Any thoughts?

Don't drive a Ford and.. well, I won't go there.

However I have done a lot of reading about different brands and grades of oil and will say this:

1: I am sold on synthetic

2: More expensive is not, necessarly, better

3: There are dozens of magazine articles where gear head type mag's have tested several oils, both Dino and "Synthetic" and Syntehtic (There is a reason I put one in quotes) and frankly.. I was surprised by a few of them

For example.. One brand I know that in Dino land is not all that well regarded.. came out on top in the "Synthetic" category.

No, I won't mention the brand... You need to do your own research there

"Oil brand ratings" without quotes.. feed it to Blackle - Energy Saving Search and Google will serve up (yes that's really google) several motor oil review links.

We also have a 2008 Georgetown XL motor home with the V-10. I use 5W-30 and was told by ford that 30w was ok. I use Valvoline 5w-30 sythenitic in all of our cars and trucks. valvoline warrants the engine for 300,000 miles and thats good enough to put in the motor home even though the warranty doesn't apply to it. Just made a trip with it (8900 miles) out west. No oil usage and got 8.7 MPG towing a 2007 Saturn

Use the Motorcraft Semi Synthetic 5-20w recommended in the owners manual. Readily available at Wally World. Never been able to break code on whether using full synthetics actually extend the recommended oil change. Gosh, I wish I weren't a simpleton.

I am a jealous of kvtaylor's mpg. I've seen an "8", but never before the decimal point, regardless of how conservatively I drive. <Sigh>

roadrohers.. That was the total overall figure. Got a lot of 7.3 in the mts and 9.2 in the flatlands. did the math at each stop for gas and 8.7 came out at the end traveling at 62-65 towing a 2007 Saturn Aura. It was a lot of driving but we saw a lot on the trip.
