I own a 2010 Fleetwood Bounder Classic on a Ford F-53 chassis with 5 speed tranny w/ OD. On the transmission gear selector, there are only 4 gear selections. Is there any way to lock out OD temporarily while driving in the mountains? Currently the only way to get out of OD is to pull down into 3rd, which is too low. Also, from a standstill, if I pull the trans down into 3rd or 2nd, the tranny is locked there, no up shifting from 1-2-3. The torque converter is doing all the work. Is this normal?
Thanks for the help!

I don't have one of those fancy 5 speed Ford transmissions, but I thought the tow/haul mode locked out OD or at least delayed it.

DONWS, OK Here's a dumb question ... Do you have a button on the end of your shift lever? I had one on my E4OD. This would lock out the overdrive.
Now that said, I did have to install a Banks Trans Command in order for the tranny to throw firm shifts.

On our 2000 with the 4R100 4 speed w/OD the little button on the end of the shift lever locks ours out of OD.
Not sure how it works on the 5R110 5 speed tranny, hopefully some member of the forum can help.

........Same here, I use the button a lot when the RPM drops around 2200, sure keeps the torque curve going. Good luck & travel safe.

The button on the end of your gear shift lever will engage tow/haul mode. When in the mountians or towing a trailer, engage tow/haul mode for better shift points and improved engine braking. Its a lot more than a OD lockout, its much smarter than previous transmissions. Let the PCM help, its trained for large loads.
All that said, you may still find you desire an aftermarket programmer to rework your shift strategy and engine control a bit. I did and am much happier with the results.
There is no OD Lockout function as you are looking for. There is simply more going on than that.

Thanks for all the replies. Yes I have a button on the end of the shifter, Tow/Haul which delays shifting to higher RPMs and helps with engine braking, however it does not lock out OD. The Tow/Haul mode works well in most situations, but there are times when just manually pulling down a gear would be helpful
