I overhauled the rear sway bar on my 95 F53 Chassis. The photos below show how I did the work. I did not have to replace the bushings on the upper part of the sway bar tie rods. If you need to replace the upper tie rod bushings you can see the posting I did on the front sway bar tie rod bushings.

Be very careful when you reinstall the bolts that hold the axle bushings in place. If you don’t get the bracket and bolts aligned just right you can cross thread the bolt and nut. The nut is welded to the bracket. I made this mistake on a bolt. I had to chisel the nut off and replace the bolt and nut. Makes for a long day!

Thank you for posting this! Excellent info. Did you notice a significant improvement in handling after you finished the job?

I used an impact wrench and tighten the bolts until the weld broke as I had to replace the bolt and nut when installing the rear track bar.

Great job. Great pictures. The best thing you did, was going with polyeurathane bushings. Note to other owners. NEVER go back with ford rubber bushing. They are trash.

ArTraveler,
Were the end link bushings an EBAY purchase as well?

No, I purchased my front set from O’Reilly Auto Parts and the rear set from NAPA. The front and rear tie rod bushings are the same.

........What a great job and excellent description. Ironically I just checked mine today(40,000 miles) and the bushings are not even there, then I found your post. I have not even noticed any abnormality in the ride, I bet I will when the bushings are replaced. Did you say you got the poly bushings @ NAPA ? Once again, thanks for a wonderful posting. Good luck and travel safe.
