PCV Filter change?

On my 1993 F53 chassis w/460, there is a small rectangular air filter below the main filter. Apparently this is a PCV filter. I have the new part, but can't seem to get the old one out. It looks like it just pushes in to a tube, but I can't quite seem to pull the old one. There is no latch or snap that's visible from the front of the MH (looking into the air cleaner tube) and I can't find a good way to get access from the top. Does this just push in (and thus I can just pull harder) or is there something actually holding this in? Don't want to pull too hard and break it if there's a clip or something behind that I can't see.

Most of the time there is a clip on the out side of the box that needs to be pulled off and put back on with the new filter. Then you push the hose back on.
The is also a gasket that needs to be between the box and the filter.
This clip also holds the hose on.

Well shoot

That is indeed the filter I'm trying to change. Any good ideas on how to access that clip? I've never seen a vehicle with the air filter so hard to access

The clip must be on the back of the filter box? I frankly didn't even know that second filter was in there until I was looking INTO the filter tube (new MH to me). The one that's in there is indeed pretty dirty.

Remove the dog house.
You have to remove #5 hose and pull #3 hose off.
Take a flat screwdriver and flip the clip off.
Then go and find the clip where ever it landed.
Replace the filter and gasket then push the clip back on.
Push #3 hose back on.
Replace #5 making sure the #4 hose is still on it.
Then put you new air cleaner back in and close up the box.

It won't hurt anything to just remove the filter and clean it. It's main function is to filter out big pieces of dirt, bugs, moths etc that get into the air cleaner housing, if that's possible the way these things are buttoned up. The PCV valve creates a vacuum in your crankcase. Fresh filtered air is drawn into the crankcase by way of that hose and filter. This keeps the crankcase clean of harmful vapors that have turned into a vapor because of the engine heat. The vapors are drawn out and put back into the intake manifold and mixed with the incoming air and fuel. The PCV system does a great job of keeping the oil much cleaner.

Well, for the record, did that on the weekend. Was about as much fun as it looked. I'm by no means a mechanic, so I'm sure someone with a bit more skill could have been faster, but that's 2 hours of my life I could have done something else with

Thanks for the info though, it did make the procedure that much easier!
