I installed a power chip a couple of months ago that I got at Brazel's RV. Unlike other chips that I have seen, this one has a toggle switch where you can go from stock to 30HP or to 40HP increases. The reason there is both 30 and 40HP settings is because on some V10's, you may experience pinging on the 40HP when climbing hills. I did not experience any pinging and I did some pretty decent hills with it.
The seat of the pants test showed that when you start off from a dead stop, there was considerable more power there. It sort of felt like if you didnt have a 3000lb toad behind you and you were running empty. Now that is using the throttle pedal at the same amount of leverage I would normally do from a dead stop. Then on hills, I notice somewhat less down shifting from overdrive and a definate power increase in 3rd gear climbing the hills. I did hills at 55MPH and 3500RPM's that would have been more like 45MPH prior to the chip or would have required higher RPM's to maintain 55MPH.
Now unfortunately, I did not see any improvement yet in mileage. But on the plus side, I didn't see any reduction either!! I have only been able to put about 600 miles on this chip so far so I am hoping the mileage will improve with some more testing. That wont, however, happen until next year since the coach is going into storage for the winter.
Mike or Steve at Brazel's can give you some of their dyno testing figures if you would like.
Mike

We also have a 2002 Ford F53 with a 2003 Itasca.

How does the chip increase horsepower, how does it work?

Can you install the chip yourself and where does it go, under the hood or in the dash?

What does it cost?

Bob&Pat,

Our chip increases Horsepower by adding timing, changes fuel trim tables,MAF tables,ETc.This chip can be self installed, although it's not easy, and it installs in the dash. The cost is 795.00 retail & 695.00 for IRV2 Freinds & customers.

It is an actual chip or really a small circuit board with a toggle switch attached to it. The chip plugs into the ECM, ECU,or PCM (whatever it is called) that is under the dash in front of the steering wheel shaft. I then mounted the switch on the dash.

Mike, we have a 2000 coach with the v10 are the chips pretty much the same for all 310HP engines? Is there any specific information you need when one places an order for the chip?

Thanks, Jim

Jim,

The chip's are a little diferent, they have a "box" code associated with them.so it would be a code like BTW3 or GXP2 & this code can be found on the computer under the dash near the steering column.

I have the 2006 V10, with the tow/haul feature transmission. My engine is rated at 305 HP though. Can I get a power chip for it?

The Ultrapower chip for the V10 works on the two valve engine. The new 362 HP electronics package is different.

Jerry,

Your UltraPower chip went out today, remember feather the throttle when the front tires come off the ground so you don't scrape the hitch
