V 10 with 5 speed automatic trans question.

When in standard drive (not tow/haul mode) my transmission when using the cruise control downshifts when rolling down a hill and the speed increases 3 to 4 MPH over the set speed. We have made the same 625 mile trip 3 times this year and just today the transmission started this down shifiting. On the other two trips it did not. If I shut the cruise control off while it is down shifting it goes back to high gear and free wheels down the hill. Is this the way it is suppose to work? If so why did it just start doing this??

It does this to me also, even with Tow/Haul off as you experienced. I've got 18,000mi on it now and I don't use cruise too much, too much shifting on the slightest grade (up or downhill), and gas mileage goes into the toilet.

That's how it works. I never use cruise uphill anymore. Wastes gas and I'm never in that much of a hurry to get up the hill anyway.

Stewart, when in the Mountains or a grade is coming up, I just turn the cruise OFF....and keep the RPM's down. It just hits my nerves, when the engine revs over 4000.

The cruise control seems to be very sensitive to any hill, up or down. It can be very annoying. If I am in a very hilly area (even if it is mild hills) i will not use the cruise control for that reason.
