Have '03 F53 and need to replace the rear brake rotors. I need to know how to remove the bearing nut to remove to rear hubs. It looks like there may be a key and/or snap ring to come out prior to removing the nut. Anyone done this before and have a diagram or instructions I can use to help me out? Thanks. Need to get a shop manual but, as usual, I am out of time unless I can download one. Gary

Can't help you with the rears yet, but will be watching with interest as I will probably do this soon.

Just did the front rotors and pads on my '02 and need rears soon.

I have pictures of the fronts but don't know how to post them on this site.

I just had to do a 4 wheel brake job out in a field in Alabama. I had to replace the pads in all 4 corners and the rear calipers. The element came off the inner pad on the left rear damaging the rotor and burned the piston boots on the caliper seizing it so I replaced the pair with Napa Eclipse. Could not find a set of 8 bolt rotors out in the sticks for the 2001 F53 with ABS so I just scuffed up the damaged side with emery cloth to get it passable enough to get me home.

Picked up a MityVac bleeder kit for $40 while I was at it and got the bleeding done in short time.

9 years on the original calipers is not too bad considering all the problems people with that other brand of chassis are having. Kelsey Hays and not Bosch is what is on the 2001.

I am now searching for the 8 bolt rear ABS rotors for the 2001.

Jerry,

You got a lot of rust for Georgia. Do you travel up north in the winter or live by the shore?

How are the front air bags working out?

Most of the rust is from Florida beaches, especially Beverly Beach and Keys. Still working on airbag pressures, starteds with 50PSI and it seemed to help some, next trip will drop to 40 and try that. May take a while to get it just right.
