I'll be changing my diff oil this weekend. Anyone know how much I should buy for my Damon F53 Chassis?

I believe you have a Dana S110 axle. You can google it to be sure, there's an ID tag on the axle that will confirm it.

And looks like it holds 7 quarts.

(My S135 in my '04 holds 12! You're getting off easy.)

Sure you want to change it? Depending where you read it's either filled for life in the Ford manuals, or due for a change yearly/100,000 miles (or something like that) in the Dana manuals. Did something happen that you NEED to change it?

Page 93 of my 2000 F53 owner's manual which is the "Capacities & Specifications" section reads:

"Your vehicle's rear axle is filled with a synthetic rear axle lubricant and is considered lubricated for life. These lubricants do not need to be checked or changed unless a leak is suspected, service is required or the axle assembly has been submerged in water. The axle lubricant should be changed any time the rear axle has been submerged in water."

It specifies Motorcraft SAE 75W-140 synthetic Rear Axle Lubricant. The Dana 80 capacity is 4.0 quarts and the Dana 135 capacity is 12.0 quarts.

Your later model coach may use a different Dana rear axle

Nothing happened, I have a friend that does this kind of stuff all the time and had me convinced that this is something I should be doing. Perhaps this would fall under "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Thanks for the help.

Your 2008 rear axel is factory filled with synthetic gear lube. Ford says its not needed to change for 'life' of the axel. But you really are good to go for at least 10yrs/100,000 miles on this one. No real advantage to changing it. No dirt or combustion products, comparitively little heat.

I also spoke with a truck repair facility this afternoon and you are all right on the mark. The only thing he told me was to make sure that if there is a vent at the top to make sure it's kept clean.

Thanks for your insight on this!

All the posts are right. This is lifetime syn. oil. I talked to the Ford engineers at the dealer show. They said only check the oil, if the rear end has been submerged in water. I took a white majic marker and wrote on the rear end housing, Do not check. Lifetime synthetic oil. do not add. I did this because several MH's came in with mixed oil's. to our dealership.
