I received the second notice on this recall today. I have checked every Ford dealer in 50 miles and none have the part. Called Ford customer service, they now say repair will not be available until January 2008. They of course want you to disconnect CC and forget about it until they get off their duffs. Has any one tried their own (home made), by-pass on this problem with a fused wire?

I saw somewhere here or on Winnie Industries Owners forum Or on RV.net class a forum where someone had instructions on making and installing your own fuseable link. I can't find it right now though. Maybe someone else remembers

Homer,
They have a solution and the suppliers that are making the part are not able to make the parts fast enough to deal with the influx of millions of vehicles.
If you do it Fords way and have a problem you will be covered however if you do something homemade to circumvent waiting for the approved part and have a problem then you most likely will be on your own.
Just drive up to the Ford dealer that is recommended when you call the 800 number for Motorhome owners and a mechanic will come out to your rig and in a minute pull the plug on the cruise control providing you with the approved method of interim protection until the parts arrive.
Look at what another member of IRV2 is going through. It seems that the cruise control was unplugged and a unknowing mechanic plugged it back in. The cruise control worked well for a short time and then burned the wiring under the hood. Now the collateral damage seems to be causing him other problems as well.

Thanks NeilV for your reply. I didn't mean for my original reply to sound like an endorsment. On the contrary I would not recomment it except as a temporary fix. I had mine done about a month ago at a local Ford Truck Center, LJL Truck Center, Macon Ga. They had a box of harnesses and did 2 other motorhomes the same morning I was there. Took them about 10 minutes on each once they started. You may want to check out Ford truck dealers in your area.

In Tampa Bay the local truck center is out until December/January.
We are just talking cruise control here and not the steering system or service brakes. Many people go through their entire lives without it so whats the big deal to wait a month or so for something that is not required and many times could be viewed as a safety hazard in itself by leading to inattentiveness and then contributing to a collision.
Yes the Ford gas pedal is not a very ergonimic design and can cause leg/foot cramps but it is not a show stopper.

I guess this could apply to headlights also, as most people do not drive their rigs at night. I for one use my CC all the time and especially on long trips, which I have coming up. I don't consider myself a safety hazard in any way shape or form for using it.

Cruise control is not mandated by the DOT for a vehicle to be considered safe or roadworthy however headlights are. Even if you do not drive at night many juristictions do require headlights to be turned on during rain storms day or night and hold non-complience as a ticketable offense.
I hope you are kidding about the all the time usage of cruise control as this would be considered unsafe when it was raining/snowing or during times of heavy traffic.
