Oil and filter should be changed before storage, that way all the contaminates and acid forming components aren't left in the engine over the winter.

Mr_D gives excellent advice on fresh oil for storage. Regarding the type, I use Mobil 1 5w-30 full synthetic in our v10 engine. In your 460 I would probably use Mobil 1 10w-30.

As far as how much oil it takes, our v10 takes 6 quarts with filter change however I believe the 460 takes 7 quarts with filter change, but not sure. Hopefully some 460 owners will respond to your post and provide accurate information on oil quantity for the 460.

Good luck and safe travels,,,

I use in my 1995 F-250 with a 460 Cid/7.5L Motorcraft Semi Synthetic Oil 10/30w and a Motorcraft FL1HP Oil Filter it takes 6 qts. I have been using this in this vehicle for almost 15 years and have over 188,00 miles and am not burning a drop.

In my 2005 Fleetwood E450 it has a V-10 I used to use 5-20w Motorcraft Semi Synthetic Oil but I now use the 10-30w and a Motorcraft FL820S oil filter. It takes 7 qts.

Good Luck

Use 10W30 and it takes 6 quarts. Dino or synthetic your choice. Should change oil before storage.

I prefer a 5w... since research has shown it flows much better when cold.
Ford even recommends it now for the newer vehicles.

I use rotella synthetic. Its about $4/quart and available at wally world and major autoparts stores. Best thing is I can use it in car, rv, lawn tractor, dirtbike, etc.

In my above post I stated that I now use 10-30w Semi Synthetic. I should have said I use 5-30w Motorcraft Semi-Synthetic Oil. Not 10-30w

I remember reading here, sometime back a ways, that there was a higher capacity oil filter that would work on the 460 engine. Does anybody know
what it was and have a brand and number for it ?

The larger filter is the FL1HP Motorcraft
