This would typically be caused by condensation. Possibly running the engine for short periods of time and never really getting up to temperature and driving off all condensed moisture.

I have had mine since new and used only mobil 1 every 3000 miles (i know overkill) and my dipstick is rusted as well. Seems to be standard operating procedure for the f53

My 01 and 08 had it. I spoke to Ford about this and they confirmed it was caused by condensation. I checked my oil everyday after I arrived. A little came out each time but never caused any issues in 93,000 combined miles ( 62,000 on the 01 and 31,000 on the 08 )

Again thanks for the replies. I think I will try to keep a thin coat of oil on the top of the dipstick and the first few inches of the dipstick tube.

Our 2015 does the same on the top 6-12 inches of the really long two piece riveted dipstick. Someone says the did stick is 5 feet long....that sounds pretty close. I just sanded it off the dipstick then rubbed oil on the entire length of the dipstick. I'm guessing it's condensation from hot and cool temps of the tube.

Yep, my '16 has it. Brought to Ford for another warranty issue and asked it to be replaced. Was told it is common and would not be replaced under warranty unless seized.

I have it on my 08 transmission dipstick, but not engine oil dipstick. Dealer told me it was condensation, and pretty common.

Just in case anyone was interested the dipstick was less than $20 and the tube was around $50. I got them from my local Ford dealer.

Same issue with my 2014 Bounder Ford Triton V10. I just wire-wheel it when changing the oil. Use Synthetic and change (+/-) 5,000 miles (for us 2 times a year..)
