Went to check the fluid in my 08 F53 and found what appeared to be rust particles at the very end of the white plastic tip of the dip stick.

MH has sat for 3 months since last usage. I've never seen this before however I usually check it after a trip and its hot and all mixed around. This time I checked it cold and this is what I found. I called Ford and they didn't seem to concerned "as there is metal at the bottom ( pan ) and various screws and bolts ".

Curious to hear if anyone else who has noticed this.

its probably somewhat common pieices of the clutch as every thing seats thats why they have a filter on the pick-up side of the tranny

A common occurance is rust in the dipstick tube and the dipstick will pick up some of it when being pulled out. Running the trans for a while will clean it out and then get a clean dipstick. Still makes me wonder where all the gunk goes. Guess maybe the filter catches it.

I had the same concern when I noticed some very small particles on the end of the dipstick. Finally found someone at the Ford dealer who said they had spent a great deal of time on this issue and determined that condensation in the tube caused a little rust to form and that would show on the dipstick when removed. Now that we are using the MH more the problem is gone.
