The fuel rack on top of the engine on my 2000 6.8L V10 has some rust spots on the outside if it. No doubt the lines under the rig do as well. I guess the previous owner stored the rig near the beach. Question is, should the rack be painted to prevent further rust, just cleaned, or left alone? The rust doesn't appear to be deep enough to cause any problems, but I don't want it to get worse. Anyone else have this problem??

Thanks,
Bob

I "assume" you mean the fuel injector tubing. While I haven't checked my '06 V10 F350, earlier versions of the fuel injector lines on the topside of Ford engines were stainless steel. Some grades of SS will show discoloration, but why not do the magnet check. If stainless, a clean up will be all that's needed. If carbon steel, I would still only do a cleaning and maybe put some clear on them for appearance sake. The rest of the lines are usually carbon steel - often terne metal coated.

Couldn't you just spray the rusting stuff with rust treatment?
