I know there have been issues with the exhaust manifold bolts on the V10 engines; rusting and breaking off flush with the head. I pulled the doghouse on our E450 Aspect today to do some work and checked the bolts. They are definitely rusted but not corroded.
My question is, is there anything preventive-wise that can done to help delay the corrosion? I was thinking about a periodic application of WD-40 or some other rust penetrant might help. What do you think? I sure don't want to deal with a broken manifold bolt down the road.

Good question baraff. Just about anything you put on the bolts will get burned off by the heat. I suppose you could buy some graded stainless steel bolts and change them out one at a time.

You can use stainless bolts but be sure and put some anti-seize on them or any bolts for that matter where rust is a problem. The company I work for builds oven and we use lots of stainless and gobs of anti seize. It holds better to heat than penetrants do. Get the best you can afford.
