Looking at the Safe-t-Plus web page they list only the 41-180 for all F53 chasis motorhomes. I would give them a call to make sure.

is this the same thing as the bilstein steering damper? i am new to this but, if this makes the drive that much safer, and comfortable then i am all for it!

there is a considerable price difference between the safe t plus and the bilstein product

I have had one of the 41 180s on mine since a month after I bought it. It makes drive a bit more relaxing. I have no experience with the 41-140, But I don't think the 180 is too much. Alvin

I have the 41-140 on my 1999 F-53. It is the red one, certainly wouldn't need one that is stiffer. There are some that say the Safe-T-Plus has caused steering gear problems. It does a great job on our motor home.

Safe-t-plus

I have the "Red one" (technical phrase) on my 2003 HR Vacationer. I took it off of my 2000 HR. Helps a lot with the handling on both vehicles.

I put the 180 (tan one for you motorheads) on my 2011 Encounter Ford Chassis shortly after I bought it. The coach wandered about and was a handful at first. The shock helped, along with other things.

Getting the right mix of tire pressure, load weight distribution, alignment and the steering shock seemed to solve 90% of the problem. That took a couple of months of monkeying around by the way.

I think the 180 could be stiffer. The wheel is still fairly loose and even with the shock, the wheel does not return to center with any authority.

But, I would not remove it, it does help.

No it is not the same thing as the bilstein steering damper. It is used in the same place but the bilstein steering damper just takes the shock out if the front wheels try turn after hitting something. It also helps to reduce shimmy.

The safe-t-plus has a spring to recenter the front wheels to straight ahead and resist the turning of the front wheels when you have a blow out or hit something. It also helps to reduce shimmy.

I have a red safe-t-plus on the front end.
I also have the Davis Tru Track front axle stabilizer.
I also have a UltraTrac track bar installed on the rear end.

thanks a ton for the clarification!!!!!

i just installed the rear air bags and am about to install front air bags, do the air bags reduce the benefits of the front and rear track bars? in other words do air bags help reduce the coach moving around as it does without the track bars?

I have air bags on the rear but I do not see where they would help the moving around.
It may move around more in the rear end with air bags with the track bar not installed on the rear end,
I do not have air bags on the front as I just use the rear air bags to lift the rear end some. I do not know why you would want them on the front.
I do not think the rear air bags would reduce the benefits of the rear track bar.
This is just my opinion, others may have a different opinion on the above.

i can level the front of the rv with the air bags as well, as i have read (now we know how everything on the net is true ...right) that the bags in the front can help with cross winds.

unfortunately i can't afford to do the track bar, and the front air bags at the same time. i had even considered adding a safe t plus. i am trying to get this stuff done up here before the weather turns to complete crap and working on the RV in the driveway is not really an option.

and again the RV stuff is brand new to me. heck i only have just over 100 miles of driving under my belt. my next real trip is going to be to florida in march. i am trying to get all ducks in a row.

thanks for your response!
