Has anyone ever used, or heard about being a good manual, the official Ford shop manuals? I have to believe it is, but it's a bit pricey so I'm just checking before I buy it online. I guess for a 1987 chassis I shouldn't be so fussy, but....
My RV is on an E-350 chassis with the 460 engine.
It has to be better than the Haynes or Chilton books, I would imagine.
Thx,
Bob

Sure I use the Ford Light Truck Shop Manuals all the time and have a lot of them for different years. They are very good for working on the mechanical part but not so much for the Electrical.
For the Electrical get the 1987 F-Series Electrical & Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual from Ford and it is very good also.
For the Emissions, Sensors and Codes get the 1987 Powertrain Control/Emission Diagnosis Manual.
I would never use a Haynes or Chilton manuals for working on a Ford but they are good for starting camp fires if they are not too damp.

Bob,
If you don't mind used, try eBay for shop manuals. I recently bought a 6 inch tall stack of GM RV chassis manuals for around $20 (only slightly used). Full new price was around $150.

subford and george.... thanks a bunch for the replies.... jeez, 63 views and no one else has a comment.... huh.
Well, subford, I'm glad you said what you did, it reaffirmed my guess that the official manuals should be darn good.
And george, yea, funny you mention ebay, I just bought two of the manuals for my rig from ebay yesterday. I don't have a problem with used manuals at all... how could I, driving a very used RV? Lol I didn't get anywhere near the bargain you got, but still saved some $.
Thx guys,
Bob

That should have read with an E not a F.
For the Electrical get the 1987 E-Series Electrical & Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual from Ford and it is very good also.

I purchased a set (2) of Ford Truck Manuals in CD format on e bay a couple years ago. They are the originals by Ford and have been very helpful. I highly recommend you search e bay for something similar. The set I bought covered everything from F150 to the F750 in the F series line, and everything from the E150 to the E 450 in the E series. There is even a complete section for the F53 (class A) motorhome chassis.
I paid about $50.00 including shipping. Excellent price forall the information. I see there are several for sale on e bay right now. Some are as low as $8.50 from the e bay stores. The set I purchased is called a "Workshop Information" CD rather than a service manual.

I would/will definitely buy it if I see one... I'll have to set up an automated search.
