Side mirrors control do not work, F53

Both the passenger and driver side mirrors will not adjust from the control on drivers door. When I purchased they did, but last 3 years nothing. Anyone know what it may be? Could it be a fuse and where would you find what fuse? 2001 F53. Thanks.

There is no pat answer for electrical issues. There are fundamental steps which should be taken. How you can make those steps is what you need to know. Here's what you need to look at and think about.

1. Do you have voltage getting to both mirrors? All circuits delivering voltage will be fused but why would that fuse burn out? They are not supposed to burn out unless there's a short providing a direct path to ground. So finding and changing that fuse may not help.

2. Since neither side works common sense says you probably don't have your source voltage.

3. How do you find the voltage source?? A schematic or fuses listed for the mirrors would help but that can be difficult to determine or find. A schematic can help but often it's not clear exactly where to look for things.

4. Can you gain access to the back side of the switch to determine if there's any voltage coming into the switch??? If there's no source voltage then you are back to finding that source. Sometimes the manufacturers add an in-line fuse to a circuit which does not run through the fuse blocks.

I'd look in, around and behind the switch area to see if there's a in-line fuse, disconnected wire or something. Maybe wiggling the wires in that area as you or somebody tries to make the switch work.

I have a great technician in the area that can find any electrical issue. He has tremendous troubleshooting skills which is what it takes. One does not have to be an RV technician or need to know specific manufacturers or specific systems to be good at this stuff.

If I didn't already have someone to go to I'd check around and talk to some service managers and find a guy/gal who has electrical problem solving and troubleshooting skills. They might be interested in doing a little moonlighting work for you.

Some here may offer some wiring diagrams and that's great. I'd bet if you gave three specific wiring manuals to 10 technicians maybe 1 or 2 would know what to do with them. To do this kind of troubleshooting takes skills, experience, talent, tricks and a lot more. They are out there.

On an F53 the mirrors were installed by the Motor home manufacturer not Ford. Would probably get more responses in the Winnebago owners forum.

"chboone" is correct in that Winnebago supplies the mirror circuits, not Ford.

According to page 6-8 in your coach's owner's manual (link here), you'll find the fuse panel under the "flip-up" dash.

There are differences in some circuits that depend on whether or not your coach has a Ford or Workhorse chassis. The diagrams to which I linked show "FD" or "Ford" for Ford, and "WH" for Workhorse.

I had the same problem in my 2002 Itasca. Spent many hours checking wiring diagram and looking for fuses. Found them under the flip up dash at the far left. That wasn’t the problem.
Traced all the wires from the mirrors to the battery.
Finally determined there is a breaker panel under the steps, removed step and panel, and behind saw the black panel with the t-handles. Removed it and there is a line of round breakers. The one on the far right was for my mirrors.
Hope you have the same setup.

I do have the breakers above battery. I will check. If I remember they are the circular ones you push in to reset?
