So, I'm at 68,000 miles trying to decide if I should do any preventive maintenance on the plugs. Choices seem to be try to change them out and hope they don't strip, torque the old plugs to 28 ft-lbs per some mechanics or just leave it be and hope for the best as I may never hit 100k on my watch.

Plug

The engine had a "miss" in it and so the engine coils and plugs were replaced. Yesterday. Think this could be related? Since the repair is probably going to require a new cylinder head (basing this on how much of the cylinder came out attached to the plug) how do you think I should address this with my local repair facility that did the service?

Hey I would tell them to replace the plug. SOunds to me that they pulled the plugs looking for a problem and forgot to tighten one back down. Spark Plugs just don't blow out.

We have an 05 with 85K on the clock. Bought her new. Don't drive it a whole lot anymore. Use as a roustabout truck and snowplow, if it snows. It still runs good so I'm not touching the plugs. May never have to I hope!

Yes they do. That engine is well known for it. Ford installs a helicoil to fix it.

Linda,
The v10 plugs are a set that I'll never go non-ford with. If I go Ford, I'd give specific instructions for a master tech to change them.

If the plugs/coils were just changed - they did it wrong. Either over-torqued, under torqued, or cross threaded. Can you prove it 100%? No. Is it very likely? Yes.

They should fix it. A helicoil will do it, but a new head is the "right" repair.

Helicoil

I've been told that a properly installed 'kit' is stronger than the original head. When my Son's V10 spit one out they promised him he'd never have to worry about it.
