Steering box

Anyone have any experience with the steering box on the f53 chassis. Mine appears to have spit out an o ring or seal as it leaks now. The dealership wants 1800 (canadian) just for the box then 4 to 6 hours to replace it.

Anyone have any past experience with this. I tried calling a parts store and nobody seems to have a listing for it and nobody sells seal kits either.

Thanks in advance

What model is your steering box? Mine's a TRW TAS-40 (2004 20,500 F53).

Mine is leaking out the vent on the side cover, "behind" the box, against the frame rail. I couldn't tell where the leak was until I took it off, cleaned it up, and put it back on.

Looks like rebuild kits are about $100. I'm debating trying to replace the single leaky seal (probably the sector shaft seal under the side cover) or just doing all the seals as long as I have it apart.

I am not sure of the model but that is very possible, where did you find the seal kit, I couldn't find any and my dealership couldn't find it either.
Thanks for the help

Just search for a seal kit for a TAS40 steering box, lots of hits. There's even a Ford part number that pops up in some of those hits: F5HZ3E501A

TAS40 seal kit google search
