Stupidly drive with f53 parking brake engaged
Hi,
Today I stupidly drove my 2004 F53 with the parking brake engaged, I noticed it after a mile or so at about 40mph.
Could I have done damage?

You probably overheated the brakes and wor them down. Hopefully you Did not warp the drum or rotor. Does the pedal pulsate when stopping?

The parking brake is on the driveshaft. You must not have had the brake on hard to drive off without noticing. Probably didn’t hurt anything but I would have it checked at a Ford dealer just to be sure.

Yes, the F53 parking brake is on the driveshaft. I seriously doubt you could have gone far with it fully engaged but probably wise to get it checked anyway.

I have done the same thing. Would that cause damage? Possible to likely. How much damage? Hard to know.
If find it interesting that the V-10 has enough power to overcome the parking brake such that it isn't obvious to the driver. If I try to do that in my cars, they won't move. Also, as the cars have brakes on the rear axle, with drive on the front, the squat or rise in the back end of the car is a giveaway that the parking brake is engaged.
I have prototyped some electronics that would make an audio announcement if the parking brake was on and the vehicle not in park, after a short delay. I got stumped trying to pick off the park signal on the transmission. I had two other scenarios for which I wanted the annunciator to bark at me. Someday, I may get back to that project. I'm waiting for iRV2 user "Charles Tuit's" brother "Round" to get back to me.

Been there--done that, several times. That's why I put a big, super bright LED on the dash, right in line with the shift arm. The stock e-brake light on the instrument panel is a joke.

Thanks all for the speedy replies.
It was possible I did not have the park brake fully engaged.
For sure the light it not great to view, I do wish it had an audible alarm.

I did think to myself when I pulled off it was a bit sluggish, but I was going up a hill.
I was distracted as beforehand the jack alarm had gone off and I pulled in to check it out.

I have done it at least two times in ten years. I doubt you did any serious damage in that short time. I checked my coach both times and did not have any damage.

I did it on our previous coach with F53. Drove it a few miles, stopping when smelling something hot/burning. Released ok, and continued on. No damage.
If it's operating ok and holding, I think you are ok. I would just continue to monitor it for awhile.

You may need to make a cable adjustment if you feel that the pedal is lower when depressed ,as far as damage if the brake holds well and you are not leaking ATF from the parking brake assembly I would not be worry about it .

And I thought I was the only one who put an LED on the dash for the parking brake. I put a self blinking one in
