This question has probably been posed before, but after searching the toad vehicle threads I couldn't find the answer.
I would like to tow my 2000 Jeep Wrangler Sport with my motorhome. My brother-in-law (who was the original owner of the motorhome) did tow his 1998 Jeep Wrangler behind it some years ago. He is not around anymore to ask about this, so I need some advice.
I have a 1995 Damon Intruder with a Triton V-10. Where can I determine what the maximum weight I can tow is? Also, is it possible to use a towbar from JC Whitney, or do I have to buy something like a Blue Ox towbar? Then, I actually have a Blue Ox towbar that was used also a few years back on the motorhome with a small Saturn sedan. I wonder if I could purchase a base plate for my Jeep that would work with the Blue Ox towbar I have?
Just looking for some general guidance before I set my Jeep up to tow. By the way, my Jeep has a 4" lift kit with 33" tires on it, but I don't think that will make too much difference as long as I match up the height of the towbar with the hitch, right?
My brother has a supplemental braking system that he is going to sell me and all I have to do is buy a car kit for it.
Thanks for the help and suggestions.

Is you coach a 1995 or 1999, I though the v10 came out in 1999. Our 2008 coach with the newer v10 shows 5,000 lbs towing.

I would think most of us just buy new baseplates when we change vehicles.

I have a 1999 F53 with the V10 and tow a Jeep Wrangler. I use a Reese tow bar like J.C. Whitney sells. If I had a Blue Ox I would buy new base plates for the Jeep. The F53 towing capacity is 5,000 lbs. You also have to take into account the Gross Combined Weight rating. That rating should be on a sticker some place in the motor home. Some are on the inside of cabinet doors. Mine is on the wall next to the drivers seat.

Change base plate on Jeep, 5000 lbs tow, should be good to go.

What is the weight of the toad? You need to know the GVWR and most
of all the GCWR of your coach. More than likely the GVWR is 22000 lbs and GCVW is
26000 lbs. In this case the 4000 lb means that your toad, and all the contents on the coach, including passesgers, should weight no more than 4000 lbs.
My Honda CRV weighs 3300 lbs so I am stretching the limits on my weight.
a 5000 lb hitch does not mean you can pull a 5000 lb veh behind this size coach.
Hope this helps

I think you're a bit confused. The (GVWR) Gross Axle Weight Rating is the "maximum permissible weight of this fully loaded motorhome". Our F53 chassis has a GVWR of 20,500 lbs. The front axle is rated for 7,000 lbs and the rear is rated for 13,500 lbs. The (UVW) unloaded vehicle weight ("the weight of this motorhome as manufactured at the factory with full fuel, engine oil, and coolants") of the coach is only 16,216. That allows 4,284 lbs of cargo, water, propane, and people before hitting the 20,500 lb max.
The (GCWR) Gross Combination Weight Rating ("maximum allowable loaded weight of this motorhome with it's towed trailer or towed vehicle") is 26,000 lbs. That means the chassis technically can tow another 5,500 lbs. However the factory installed hitch is only rated for 5,000 lbs effectively lowering the GCWR to 25,500 lbs.
All the above information is copied directly from the "MOTOR HOME WEIGHT INFORMATION" sheet supplied by the coach manufacturer.
We tow an 04 Jeep Wrangler that weighs in at 3,740 lbs. The coach loaded to the GVWR and towed vehicle would total 24,240 lbs which is well within the GCWR of 26,000 lbs. In our case it's even better since we only load the coach to about 18,600 lbs. That means the total weight of the coach, it's contents, and the Jeep only weigh 22340 lbs.

Great, it is nice to know the horses won't have to walk to the show.

You should check out this thread:

Lots of good info on towing the JEEP Wrangler. I've got posts there on my blue ox baseplate and smi brake installs.

We tow a 2000 wrangler behind our 1999 F53, using a blur ox alladin tow bar I found on craiglist.
the "baseplate" is a pair of bumper mount brackets I bought ne from Blue Ox for less than $50. I also bought some nice "rock crawler" bumpers toi mount them to.
