We just took delivery on our 08 32LA Allegro, Ford. The service tech at the dealer said it's best not to ever use the tow/haul mode. I've been told to use it when going down hill to help with the braking and I've been told to use only on straight stretches to avoid transmission gear hunting. Also told to use it when towing and some say not to use when towing. Should it be used and if so when?

We were also told by the service tech to keep all tires at 100psi but on the tire sidewalls the max inflation is 95psi. We have 19.5 tires. Seems to me that 95psi would be the max.

We use the tow/haul going up hills. Helps to keep the RPM's lower. On steep hills, I use it going down as well as using a lower gear. Never use it on flat ground.

I use it when coming to a stop in the city and after stopping I put it back in normal mode.

I use tow haul when going down hill and when stopping in traffic. I've never had a problem with gear hunting. Tow haul shortens the distance I need to stop. It is especially useful in traffic when someone ahead unexpectedly stops very quickly.

I also weighed my rig and I went to the tire manufacturer's web site to find out how much pressure I should have in my tires based upon the weight they are carrying. If you keep your tire presser at 100psi and you don't need a 100psi to carry your rig's weight your will have a much rougher ride and your tires will wear out faster. Tires wearing out may not apply in an RV if you replace your tires every 7 years as some suggest.

Here seems to be a decent article on the Tow Haul issue.
As far as tire pressure, never inflate higher than the cold air tire pressure listed on the side of the tire. It's why it says "maximum".
As far as where to actually have the pressure setting, what does the rig say on the placard?
What does the rig weigh?

I really liked the tow/haul mode. Enabled me to operate MH smoother and move confidently when slowing. Experiment with the tow/haul mode. I think you will find it very useful in operating your MH safely. Not sure why the tech would tell you not too. Ford spent time and money to develop so there must be a reason.

Based on this tech's recommendation on tire pressure, I would discard any information he gave you. As others have stated, tire pressure should be matched to the vehicle weight, NEVER to exceed the maximum psi on the sidewall.
