How to check the transmission fluid level:
1 - Never check it when it is cold. On the dipstick the "C" for cold level was added by someone that was wrong. In fact a nearly empty transmission when cold could look full if there is oil only in the pan while the cooler, pipes, converter, filters, and transmission could have no oil. This is what happened after I changed my transmission cooler and engine radiator. You could destroy your transmission if you trust the C mark.
2 - Drive the vehicule for 20 minutes so that the transmission temperature is at the operating temperature. I think the oil expand at this temperature. Also it is mandatory that the oil circulation has started: if the oil is not hot enough, it will not circulate and a component could have no oil (like the cooler) and this would give false reading.
3 - Always check when the engine is running at idle. This force the circulation of oil in every component. The circulation takes oil from the pan to push it in the components. The dipstick end goes in the bottom of the pan.
4 - Always check when the vehicule is level. The dipstick goes in the front of the 18" long pan. A few degrees will give false reading. If the front is higher, the reading will show less oil, if the rear is too high, the reading will show more oil.
5 - Remove the dipstick, clean it, put it back and then remove it again to read the level. It should be at H low.
Everyone should keep this in their notes.
