My 2000 Winnebago Adventurer 37G showed a flashing "Overdrive Off" light 700 miles/3 weeks ago on the auto-shift lever, and at the same time the speedo failed. An engine restart appeared to reset the problem, but the flashing light recurred a week later whilst stationery. Again, a restart fixed it. No ill effects were felt.

This morning on first starting cold, the light again commenced flashing, but when I restarted the engine, it continued to flash and the MIL came on. The produced a P0705 code which relates to a faulty transmission range sensor circuit. After advice, I have continued to drive the coach without ill effects, but obviously need to have this rectified. Assuming it is a faulty sensor, can anyone please advise where to order one? Also, we'll be arriving in Carson City, NV on Friday until Tuesday morning when we drive to Marin, CA (north of SF). Might anyone recommend a reliable-but-not-expensive repairer who could take care of fitting the sensor in either town please?

Thanks.

Dougie.

You should be able to get the part and repair at any Ford dealership in those areas, can't speak on what the cost may be, but the sensor will probably cost around $130 to $160 + labor.

On our coach the vss sensor is located on the top front of the drivers side differential housing.

Good luck

The Ford dealer in Reno will probably want to give you an appointment for 1 or 2 weeks into the future. The dealer in Carson City may be a better bet for a repair. There are several mobile services in Carson City/Reno area, haven't used them, so cannot suggest one.

Thank you for both suggestions. Carson City Ford have ordered me one, and I've twisted a VERY good friend's arm (well, both of them, and a leg..) to get his spanners out next week in Frisco. Hopefully should be sorted!

A belated update - all sorted (in fact, by the Ford main dealer in Carson City who agreed to bill me for 1 hour ($99) and not two as originally quoted.

Thanks again,

Dougie.

I just encountered the same thing, flashing OD off on the gear selecter was the precursor to a service engine soon light. Drove over to the local Ford dealer and the fault was the transmission range sensor. I was under the impression from some of the other threads that it was probably emissions or fuel related. What a shocker. The part was 245.00 and install was 90., total bill out the door was about 380. But I'm glad its fixed!

How that was the case is a mystery then. The Ford retail price is $77.45!

The speedo on my F53 was acting up and not knowing which one it was, I just re-seated all three connectors on the tranny a couple of times and all was good. Took all of 5 minutes.

I looked at the bill again, including the diagnostic, the labor was 245 and the part was 90. I got it reversed....

Makes more sense, but they must have an hourly rate of $245 then. :-(

Mine is acting up again. when I first start moving, it jumps to 40 MPH. It does seem to work ok when I get over 40. Which of the three sensors is for the speedo?
