Transmission suggestion...
I was poking around here today looking at various posts and was thinking about things I have done to my rig since I have had it and how happy I was with the outcome. And, I have done much...CHF, steering stabilizer, sway bar bushings, tires, shocks, suspension hardware replacement, alignment, etc... but the thing I am here to brag about today.....ATF change!!!
It is hard to describe the subtle changes it brought on, and the comfort of knowing it is done. But it is noticeable immediately when done, firmness into gear, sharpness of shifts, smoothness of operation, and quietness (I was beginning to hear groans, vibrations, etc.. now all gone) I guess all attributable to "worn out fluid". I assume many of you are owners of older but low mile rigs like me, mine was a 2004 Seabreeze, barely 20K miles when I got it 2011, and it may have been higher miles than many. But as it topped 30,000 I got thinking about ATF, not only based on miles but that it has been in there for 7-8 years!! Well with the guidance of Mark Kovalsky, my personal transmission god, I did it in the driveway in about 30 minutes with the assist of my daughter.
My suggestion to all you similarly situated F-53 owners is simple...DO IT. Read Mark's posts for instructions and reap the benefits

I did mine at 40,000, refilled with Amsoil also changed filter. Have over 15,000 on the oil now. Even though the pan gasket is reusable I bought a new one from Ford. The gasket looked good, seemed a little frim when I put my finger nail into it. I didn't want any leaks so replaced it.

Sounds like a good idea. Anyone know which tranny I got? Where can I buy the filter? I added Amsoil to my Shelby GT500 (manual trans) and it felt much better, can only imagine what it would do for the Sunova.

Doc Vegas,
You probably have a 2006 chassis, your transmission is a 5R110W 5 speed. You can buy the filter at Ford or almost auto parts store. If you buy it at an auto parts store don't use the gasket that comes with it, if it does. Not sure if all after market filters come with a gasket, the WIX I bought came with a cheap cork gasket.

Thanks, you are right, it is a 2006. I am a tad surprised it is a 5-speed, thought it was a 4-speed. Never counted the gear shifts i guess.

Do you have the tow haul mode button on the shift lever?

Then you have a 5R110 five speed. You CANNOT use the link above! Your transmission has an internal thermostat that will prevent that from working.
Changing the internal filter isn't needed, either. The way to service a 5R110 is to either use a heated flush machine, or to just drain what is in the pan.
There is a remote filter near the radiator that must be changed.

What years had the remote filter. I don't remember seeing one on my 2007 chassis.

The remote filter was on the gas version of the 5R110 from 2005 chassis partway through the 2008 model year chassis.
