When you do find it, Yes you will not think you were that stupid, but !!!. I've been finding these since the early 80's so I know exactly where to look. It took me at least 20 minutes to finally spot it. Sometimes there's a cover over it. The cover does say O B D II or something close to that.

This is where Ford put it and most home builders failed to move it.

After you put your scanner on, find out what cylinder is misfiring, and as another poster said before, install new coil on that cylinder.

IMO it would be foolish to buy 10 coils.

Things to look at. I had a dead coil on my 1999 and it did not set a code but I knew something was amiss (LOL). The drive-train would vibrate going up hills. After much research I found that code readers have 10 modes of operation.

http://thebestobdiiscanners.com/10-m...obd2-scanners/

If you read this file from Ford it details the the ecm monitors the misfire events. Starts on page 7. I read it several times and it still hurts my brain. Basically the ecm monitors rotational acceleration to determine misfires based upon a learned average rotation.

Yep. In a nutshell most engine monitors detect misfires by looking for unexpected or abnormal changes in the crankshaft speed. Interesting that you didn't get a code.

Ok irv2 guys.....I found the port, hooked up the scanner and this is what it told me:
P0307
P0171
P0174
P0302
P0303
P0305
P0306
P0310
Dang near every cylinder. I did not get a P0300

Where to go from here? Do I replace all the coils? Remember, mechanic replaced plugs and boots and only one coil on #3
Am I looking at an injector issue?

On your mark, get set, GO!!!!!

We had a miss fire also and it was the coils. I used the COP's from this ebay vendor and have had no issues.

Did you have a lot of codes read like this? It's just weird that I got so many cylinder codes

I had a couple of codes. Replaced the COP's and cleared the codes and none have returned. Check here to find out what the code means. IMHO just replace the COP's.

I would check for:

Vacuum leaks (Intake Manifold, vacuum hoses, PCV hoses(the elbow))
Mass Airflow Sensor
Plugged Fuel Filter or weak Fuel Pump
Plugged or dirty Fuel Injectors

Check the things the cylinders have in common.

I agree. Since you are getting lean codes for both banks AND misfires in almost every cylinder I 'm leaning more towards a vacuum leak, bad\dirty MAF. Thinking even maybe a stuck EGR valve might cause those symptoms as well. A fuel pressure check will eliminate the fuel system pretty quickly. I doubt you would have that many bad COP modules at the same time.

My '99 did. Rock Auto lists a replacement EGR for the 2001 F-53. In fact they list it as a replacement for 1999 - 2004. Does the op's rig have an EGR? It would seem so.
