Please owners of either of these products with V 10 and 6 speed transmissions only reply.
Can you provide your impression of either of these products good or bad to oem tune ?
Disclaimer: IRV2 search only addresses pre 6 speed impressions.
Thanks

Five Star will work with you to change their standard tune to fit your needs. Different weight coaches respond differently due weight and diff ratio. It make take several tunes to get the exact shift schedule you desire. They have by far the best customer service around. Money well spent in my opinion.

Thanks Jim, does your 2016 have the 6 speed transmission ?
If so how did the tune change the drivability impression please.

Yes it is a 6sp. I am on my third tune. The first tune improved the throttle response and kept the coach in 6th gear longer (great improvement); however, the downshift program in tow/haul not was not to my liking. The second tune was so aggressive that the coach would never shift into 6th in tow/haul. The third tune is perfect in normal but not quite right in tow/haul. I have only put 1,100 miles on the third tune so I an reluctant to ask for a revision until 3,000 miles towing. There is no increase or decrease in fuel mileage but the engine is much more responsive to throttle position

Jim when you say improved throttle response do you mean you can feel the coach accelerate stronger ?
There is no increase or decrease in fuel mileage but the engine is much more responsive to throttle position
More responsive , again do you mean accelerate stronger and or hold the speed / RPM without slowing down going up a steeper grade ?
Your input is very important thanks for your time.
One would hope the initial maps provided with the tune would be near perfect .

I have a 6 speed and use 5 Star. I like that it does better on the hills. It will hold the gear longer and when it does shift it will go to the next gear instead of going from 6th to 4th. I think the shifting is smoother. I only use he Tow/Haul mode when the road is hilly, windy or driving where I need to brake a lot. I have found that it doesn't shift into 6th gear unless I get my speed up to around 68 mph. Since I keep my speed between 60-65 mph it stays in 5th. I really never had a issue with the power, but I do think 5 Star improved acceleration.

Dave it sounds like you are happy and the tune works well for you.
Question regarding the tow mode , When you get the speed over 60 mph if you lessen the load on the gas pedal will the transmission shift into 6th ?
If not try to get 5 star to allow this I bet this would be a benefit.
Thanks !

Peter.
On my MH it doesn't shift to 6th gear until I hit 67-68 mph. It doesn't seem to matter if I'm using the Tow/Haul mode or not. If driving 65 mph and not using the Tow/haul mode my rpm will be around 2000 rpm, if using the Tow/Haul at 65 mph then my rpm will be around 2500 rpm. I try to use cruise control as much as possible. I never really paid attention to this before I got the 5 Star Tuning, so I don't know if my MH was like this before or not. I hate to say, but I'm not really a Gear Head so not sure if this is normal or not.

As the coach came, the first third of throttle movement did not show much change in the pitch of the engine or acceleration when locked in 4th gear. When the throttle position was suddenly changed (as when passing on a two lane road) there was a noticeable delay before full throttle and down shift(s). There seemed to the about one second delay in engine response after a major movement in the throttle (increase or decrease). As for as the original tune, it was a major improvement but since Five Star stated the would adapt the tune to my wants and wishes why not give it a try? As I stated, not towing with a 18,000 lb coach with a 4.30 rear axle ratio and 245/70-19.5 tires, the first tune was perfect except it lacked an aggressive downshift pattern under moderate breaking. The second tune cured the downshifting but was too aggressive in tow/haul - staying in gear to long and downshifting before it was necessary. The third tune did not change the normal mode operation but did modify the tow/haul shifting pattern more to my liking. I tow three different cars/truck on a dolly and none weigh over 3,200 lbs so 5th gear will get me over most hills with the cruise on. My GCR towing is just over 22,000 lbs.

Jim and Dave thank you for your impressions. Currently our coach is winterized , after 1-2 shake down trips to get reacquainted with the drivability we will try the tune.

I have a 6 sp tranny on my coach and tow a Honda CRV. I like the change but it is very subtle. Going up hills it seems to stay in 6th longer and many hills where it shifts down to 5th it will carry the hill. On steep hills it will go to 4th. Before 5 Star, sometimes it would go all the way down to 3rd on a steep hill. I have not had that happen now in a long time. It will not improve your mileage. If anything you will lose a 1/4 MPG. Is it worth the money, maybe from a drivability stand point, but not economy.
I think 5 Star people are good to work with, i just used the program they gave me. I did not ask for adjustments. When i first got it there were some problems getting it to load. They sent me a new program and it went in.
There are three motorhomes that travel together each winter, mine: 2016, a 2015, and a Workhorse 2007. We all have 5 Star.

UltraPower vs 5 Star Tune V10 6 speed
I have a 2016 Miramar with the F53 6-speed trans and Banks intake. I agree with others’ posts.
The 5-Star tune improves transmission response and shifting quality. Accelerating up through the gears is smooth with nice locking modulation in upper gears that mimics having extra half gears.
When climbing in CC, it holds a gear longer, and downshifts less often trying to maintain speed. It helps the CC do a more refined job.
The Tow/Haul is even better: Downshifts are more aggressive and hold for better for control decelerating from speed. A lot less braking needed.
All in all, I recommend this upgrade for those active drivers that are involved with what their vehicle is telling them. For the less involved driver, probably not worth the money.

Thanks for the feedback Mel. The one thing I detest is the high rpm engine breaking on steep descends when not required . This sounds more pronounced with the 5 star tune.
