I just ordered a Sightseer 35J on a Ford Chassis with a V10. I traded in a Class C with a V10 made around 8 to 9 mpg. What should I expect with a Class A

Thank You

probably close to the same ,maybe closer to the 8. you'll like the smoothness of the ford chassis though.

I have put about 65,000 miles on two MH's with the f53 and my average is about 7 when I drive at 62 mph. I have gotten 6 1/4 and 8 1/4, but it seems to always average about 7 at the end of a 4 month trip. A little less if I use the Gen. a lot. This is with towing a car,but I have realized similar results when not towing. Wind and hills will have an effect as well. The 8 1/4 happens on calm days with flat roads.

Our 2000 37' coach over the 10 years we've had it, averaged 7mpg. Fuel mileage on a class A depends much on the power to weight ratio and one's personal driving habits. Strong headwinds really drag the mileage down.

If you're talking average.......I believe those that claim 8-10 mpg with a mid 30' class A are overstating a little. My 30' MH averaged 7.5 and my 37' MH averages 7 mpg. This is with a calibrated ScanGauge verified by manual calculations. I have gotten up to 8 mpg in stretches but as low as 5 mpg in headwinds. Most owners have reported about what I have seen.

With the coach in my sig (22,000 lb F-53 chassis, weighing in at 21,800lb), I have gotten a minimum of 6.5 to a maximum of 8.5. I get the maximum without the toad going 55-60MPH and the minimum going 70-75MPH with the toad. In mountains, the scangauge will read 3 to 3.5 MPG going up 5% grades, as low as 2.5 going up 8% grades with the toad. Of course, I get 9999 down those same grades.

The only way I can get 10MPG is by having my engine output 100HP per the scangauge. It usually will not sustain a speed above 50MPH doing this, or go up hills or handle a headwind without slowing down and unlocking the torque converter. I also cannot come to a stop stop and start, the MPG goes down and won't recover! BTW, my Torqshift transmission locks the torque converter and stays in 5th gear at about 40-42MPH.

I agree with the others, I get about 7mpg with the toad if I don't push it too hard. However, my engine is the 2000 model, approximately 310 HP. The newer, higher HP engines might be a little different.

I have averaged 8.1 over the last 9000 miles. This includes some sea level trips but mostly over 8000ft driving up here in the high country. Rig now has over 61K, weighs 16k+ and I rarely travel with a full tank of water. Weight is the enemy. I usually travel at the posted speed limit which on most of our 2 lanes is 65mph. I think that the 275hp engine is more fuel efficent than the later models from what I've read.

We recently returned from a 2000 mile trip from home here in Washington through Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and North Dakota. Average mpg was 7.6 to 7.8 until I started using 92 octane premium. Then it jumped to 8.5 plus it seemed to have more power pulling hills. We were driving 65-70 wherever possible, no generator usage but cab AC on 90% of the time for the whole trip. I admit my results weren't very scientific but the MH has been very consistently getting high 7's since we purchased it. Has anyone else experienced these results with premium fuel in a stock Ford V-10?

Now that is very interesting! If I calculated correctly, at least 8.9% better mileage with only 8% more fuel cost (assuming premium cost 20 cents more per gallon and $2.50 regular gas). Looks like you broke even or even saved some money.

I will have to try it, unfortunately the next long trip is not for a couple of months.

While I don't have a V10 in a MH, I do have an '06 F350 4x4 with one. Gas mileage is not its' fine suit. But with that said, I didn't purchase that truck to do an economy run. I bought it for a nice smooth running, reliable and reasonably powerful engine to haul my 34', 10,000# 5th wheel. It does that very nicely with gas mileage in the NY 'hills' as low as 7.4 then going up to 9.9 in the combined hill and fairly level roads. The combined weight of the trailer/truck are approximately 18,000 pounds depending on water and supplies load. Now, the truck alone, town driving is ~10, open highway, up to 14.4.
