Hi,
Does anyone know the following specs for an early model 99 V10?
acceptable Fuel Pump pressure and volume
and
acceptable Mass Air Flow sensor readings in GPS (gal per second??)
I did search for the above, but all I could find was a post saying fuel pressure should be 35-45 psi?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Here's a little more info: The engine has been throwing "lean codes" on both banks for several months now. It runs fine despite the CEL being on.
Both myself and now my local mechanic have cleaned the MAF sensor, but the codes keep coming back. While we were in FLA this winter, the Ford dealer looked at it and said it was a vacuum leak that they couldn't find in the short time they had it there for a different issue. Told me to take it somewhere that had the time to track it down.
My mechanic however suspects the fuel pump since it has also begun not starting on the first try, but will always start on the second. His reader will tell him whats going on, but without the original specs, he has no way of knowing whats right for my engine....
If no one here has that info for the 99, is there another board that I can ask on that may have people familiar with the Ford motorhome V10?
Thanks!

You might try calling Ford Customer Service at 800 444-3311 and perhaps they can help or direct you to a source that can provide that information.
Best of luck,

The fuel pressures should be the same as the 460.
32-34 idle
40 WOT
45 idle vacuum line off the FPR.

Last time I had a intermettent lean code, a fuel filter change fixed it. Filter was not that old either but was dirty anyway.

Thanks for the reply's. I will try both of those suggestions.
Here's another question: The mechanic is telling me that if the MAF sensor is bad it will be a problem to replace it. Its part of the air-intake hose and Ford doesn't carry that part anymore. They say it was unique to the 99 motorhome chassis and the truck parts are different?
Anyplace I might get a new or used air hose/MAF sensor for that?
Thanks

I asked him to check the filter again (he changed it a couple of months ago when we first started looking for the problem), I'll let you know what he finds.
He did say that the 10% ethanol gas we get here MIGHT be part of the issue with the lean codes.

Most of the time you can clean a MAF sensor if you very careful.

I just checked for you. Rock Auto stocks it from AC Delco, Cardone and Standard Ignition. Yes your flow tube is an integral part of the air cleaner lid but the sensor itself is held on by 2 screws. The aftermarket sensors come with the inline flow tube that can go in the hose, just down stream of the air cleaner or swap the new sensor to your air cleaner assembly. Its almost always the sensor that is bad, not a cracked housing. For 1999, one sensor part number fits everything from a ranger to an F550 superduty to a Cobra.
And the previous poster was right, they can usually be removed and cleaned. Carefully the internal wire element is fragile.

jcthorne Thanks for checking that! I boasted to my mechanic that the people on this board would have answers or would know where to find them :-)
I have been checking the Ford Truck Enthusiast board too but there is a LOT to go thru there.....
I have to cut my guy some slack, he runs a very small garage and takes pity on me when I show up with my MH.... He just got through putting a new heater core in it for me and I know some of you have an idea what a job that is!

Just a late follow up to this: After cleaning the MAF didn't work I took JCThorne's advise and got a new MAF sensor from Rock Auto. He was correct that it was the same part number for many Ford vehicles and also correct that it came attached to a new section of tubing. It was easy to do the swap.
Unfortunately it didn't solve the problem, I am still getting intermittant lean codes p0171 and check engine lights and I am going to post a new question about the fuel pump.
thanks!

do you have a crack in a exh manifold? or a exh leak anywhere up stream of the 02 sensors? if so they can sometime suck in fresh air and mix in the exh and fool the sensor into thinking the engine is running lean.
