V10 Lack of Power

Since we left the Rv parked up, but was run a couple of times for 9 months while we were on holiday. It does not have the power it used to.
When excelerating it seems to hunt odd times, and has to work hard on inclines.

The engine management light does not come on showing any problems. But connected a basic obd2 and code p1406 dpfe sensor downstream hose is logged.
Could this cause the lack of power..?

Is there anything obvious to check for or look at.

Open the intake air filter box and check that something hasn't taken up residence and is clogging the filter.

As mentioned, look at your intake / filter to make sure critters haven't set up housekeeping in the air cleaner. While you have it apart, clean the MAF sensor.

Clean MAF Sensor – 1999 Southwind 35S

TSB - 1998, 1999, and 2000 F53 chassis. You mentioned hunting and you have a 1999 F53. One problem that can mask itself as a power / drivability problem is a shifting problem. Verify that the Transmission shifting TSB has been complied with. This adds a separate grounding circuit for the ECM . If the TSB has been complied with, you should see the two ground bolts down low on the firewall and almost directly in front of the parking brake pedal. Look at this article for a writeup and photos.

Unfortunately we can not open the links 404 denied. So the air filter is a easy check, but what are looking for as the TSB.?
Is it on inside or outside of fire wall and what does it look like with the mod or without.

I just check the links on two other devices with other browsers, they are OK. Is anyone else having a problem opening the links?

DARN - Forum keeps reformatting into a "Hyperlink" and doesn't let me just give you the raw URL.

Maybe try on another computer.

NOTE - If your doing this in a public library or school, I know many block links identified as a "BLOG" (another story)

Thanks Cliff -

The Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) that's refereed to in the article addresses shifting issues with early F53s (1998, 1999, and 2000). i.e weird shifting, not shifting, starting out in wrong gear, etc.

The TSB has you modify how the ECM grounding is performed, specifically adding another ground point (hence the second bolt) and then adding new ECM grounds to the bolt.

Evidently there was a problem with electrical noise getting into the vehicle speed sensor that was confusing the transmission. the grounds solve the noise problem

From inside the MH, if you look low on the firewall (near the floor) directly behind the parking brake pedal, If the TSB has been complied with, you will see two bolts with wires under them. If you only see one bolt, then the TSB has not been complied with.

This is a photo of mine. It originally had the one green bolt.. I added the other bolt, I did the TSB on mine a couple months ago. This is a common problem on these three years of F53 and has symptoms similar to yours.

On top of the other ideas mentioned pour a few cans of Sea Foam in your gas tank, that will help get rid of any gunk in your fuel system.

We run duel fuel in UK, Lpg and petrol / gas . The problem of lack of power and hunting happens when running either fuels.
So adding additives or fuel filter should not make a difference.

Sorry should have said we are duel fuel on first post.

Have had a look for the earth connections and there is only one original with two connections from it. When we put the second bolt what connections to it and where do they go to.

^^ TSB not complied with.....

Look at the link I gave you, explains all of it.. Including how to deal with the TSB when the new wiring harness is no longer available...

Try another computer to open the link..
