Consider these comments:
1. Check other threads regarding the warranty issue. I have been reading these threads for about 2 years. Nobody has stated." My engine quit and the 5 Star Tune voided our warranty."
2. If an issue arises the Tune can be removed just as easily as it was installed.
3. There have been many who have installed the tune while still under warranty and never has a negative post been reported on these forums.
4. The V-10 is a rock solid engine and very, very few have reported major issues. Some of the issues concerned with the engine involved spark plugs being stripped or blown out. That issue is easily fixed and has been rectified by Ford. Also the tune would not cause a plug failure. The failure was attributed to to few threads in the aluminum heads.
5. I am the only driver of our MH. I spend hours behind the wheel and If the Tune is all it is said it is (as reported by many) and the risks are very few and limited then I'll take the chance.

Hey life is about choices and some of those choices do involve taking risks. Just owning one of these huge $$$$$$ pits is taking a big risk. If we are posting on these forums we've already take some risks. what's a few more????

Hi, ncflyguy69 I think we know each other fairly well. Only double digit posts here. You've got some catching up to do. See Ya!!!!

I plan to order today. Another question that comes to mind is: if this tune is as good as it appears to be, why doesn't Ford set them up from the factory with this tune?? More power, better shifting and increased fuel milage sounds like something they would be interested in. You know they have the knowledge and technology to do it so why don't they??

Thanks cenfl - I too am worried that it could void the $2600 contract that I paid to Wholesale Warranty which I'm in the process of using to fix a few minor problems we experienced on last trip. You save them up if they're not a trip changer.
I spoke with Mike @ 5 star a few minutes ago and the only problems that they have seen is with the emissions control checks that several states do every year - in NC it's got to be done to not only pay your intang. tax bill but get the registration for the next year. I know that FL years ago did away with this ridiculous testing. That said, I'm not sure if it's worth the risk just to have the MH's engine run a bit smoother. It's not going to change the MPG much, if any and the biggest benefit is the downshifting on hills and the overpasses when you're using cruise control.
I think that I'll pass on this device since the warranty is worth more to me than getting a smoother engine.

I totally agree with you. The quote I cited previously (i.e., modify the vehicle = NO COVERAGE) was from the service contract I also purchased from Wholesale Warranties. My understanding is that you cannot completely eliminate evidence that the vehicle has been modified (tuned) from the computer. So once you have paid for a service contract, installing a tuner means you just wasted it. There are lots of happy "5 Star Tuners" out there and if it were just the manufacturer's warranty in play, then I might consider it. In that case Ford would have to prove the tune caused the problem to deny coverage.

Why won't ford do this upgrade??? I asked my Nephew who is an engineer for Ford and here was his response.

Because the V-10 is used in a variety of applications they just don't want to get into the issue of tuning engines for specific applications.

To me that does not make a lot of sense but that's at least part of the reason. The other would be some increase of emissions especially if you live in a state that requires an annual emissions check. I still think it would be worth R&Ring it every year so I could pass the emissions test.

That is the same answer I got from 5 Star when I ordered. He said they use the same F53 in 2 truck applications as well as MH. That would only be 3 different codes needed. Doesn't make sense to me unless it is the due to the increase in pollutants.

Makes sense to me. Ultimately, its less parts and information to manage and maintain. Up until 2011 at least, you could get the V10 in the 250-450 range, and its a staple in the 550 and ups, as well as the F53 and F59 chassis. So thats potentially 6-8 different applications there depending on how you slice it.

Factory tunes have long since been a "once size fits most that can squeak by EPA regs".

We live in Clark CO, Las Vegas, NV that requires annual smog checks. Had the 5 Star tune installed back in June 2011. No problem passing smog checks for the last 3 years.
