Vibration @ 40 and Up

I think I've found my vibration. Center Drive Line Carrier... can move the drive line up and down with little or no resistance. Has anyone changed one out?

Haven't done the motorhome but have done it on a pickup. Should be about the same by the looks of it.

Had to pull the rear driveshaft, it unbolts at the rear end yoke and slides back. Then unbolt the carrier (u-shaped piece) and it slides off. Replace the rubber donut and re-assemble.

Check your u-joints for slop or roughness. Good time to replace them if needed while you've got things apart.

What has probably failed is the bearing inside the rubber housing. The bearing usually need to be pressed off.

What has probably failed is the drive shaft support bearing inside the rubber carrier. Most of the time these bearings need to be pressed off the shaft.

Not unusual for center carrier bearings to fail, especially on "split" driveshafts if so equipped. These things are exposed to all kinds of weather, and lubrication is usually not possible. One very important point IMHO. BEFORE removing anything, punch, paint or scribe marks on all rotating mating surfaces (front d/shaft slip yoke to trans, center carrier to shafts, rear u-joints, etc.). This helps to ensure things go back in the way they came out. That is important in maintaining the driveline balance that should have been in place by the OEM. Also, if for some reason the vibration is not eliminated, you can look elsewhere knowing that the these components went back in correctly. And I agree 100% with Nick-B....any slop or roughness in the u-joints, suggest you replace em'. It's not a difficult repair, just a bit tedious. Patience and care to re-installation is critical. PLEASE let us know how you make out....Thanks!
