Wgat is this plug for????

Picked up a 2018 Forester 3011DS and there was this plug hanging out of front dash. Asked the guy taking us thru the PDI and he had no idea and tried to give some BS answer. So I am reaching out to the forum crowd to see if anyone may know.

That type of plug could be just about anything..

Many Vehicles (RVs cars and trucks) there are plugs that do nothing. This is because it is less expensive to have one standard harness and only use the wires/plugs they need.. That one might be, for just about anything.

Will it accept a USB plug? If so, it is for either Apple Play or connecting some other type of audio device. For example, I can plug in my ITouch and the radio becomes the controller for that device while still being able to connect my phone via bluetooth. (I am old school and do not keep music on my phone).

That looks like a Ford/Motorcraft WPT-663 Radio Amplifier Connector. If it is that connector, I can't tell you how it would be wired into the sound system.

On second thought, the WPT-663 is grey and is shaped differently. A new Ford connector/pigtail catalog shows a WPT-1297, which is an airbag connector. It is black, and has the correct shape.
