Thanks for the information.
The above Ford link did not have the 2017 F-550 chassis.

Someone said in another post the new 2017 F-550 chassis is more difficult to work on because there is less room to maneuver . He used the example of changing the transmission gasket and said they typically remove the cab to make the job easier? Whatever that means?

Learned quite a bit since I was last on here. I do have a few a questions though, it seems there were changes to the "commercial" 2017 F-550 but does anyone know if they apply to the non-commerical F-550 XL or XLT models as well? Perhaps they are the same thing, just asking?

There 2017 gas chassis also has two different engine types, the 6.8L 3 valve SOHC EFI V10 engine or the 6.2L FFV V8, any opinions on these motors?

Thanks

Here's a link to the "What's New" page on the Ford body builders website.

https://www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas...s/whatnew.html

It starts with the 1999 model year and goes through the 2017 model year. It includes any "noticeable or significant" changes for each model from the in the E, F, and Transit series. It also includes the F53 and F59 stripped chassis.

If the model you are looking for in a specific year isn't mentioned it means there were negligible changes from the previous year

This is an awesome reference! The 2016 year link is incorrect. Hopefully Ford will fix that as there were big changes in the 2016 model year for the F53.

I posted this OP question originally on December 27, 2016, and it is Almost April 2, 2017 now (not going into the April Fools rabbit hole. I point this out only because some of my questions were, well quite silly, based upon what I have learned since December.

The 2017 F-550 chassis comes in three (3) models with three engine options, two gas and one diesel. Apparently, the Born Free RV model I am looking at (Imperial) comes with the V-10 and is the XL model with the XLT trim upgrade.

And yes it seems I can add the options to the chassis since it is being ordered new. I actually down;loaded the 2017 options sheet and it is in PDF form which I save. Unfortunately, Adobe saves it on my computer but doesn't let me, as far as I know, determine which website I downloaded it from on line so I could put the link to it here.

I don't know much about the V-8 engine option but it seems to have less horsepower and torque than the V-10. (Word is the V-10 maybe going bye-bye in 2019).

Anyway, the "big" difference for the 2017 F-550 Super Duty models is the "boxed" (vs C channel) cab only, the "Military grade" aluminum build and and some Tech additions. Oh, and it costs more

If anyone has comments on the 3 valve V-10 (I know at one point the spark plugs were a nightmare) I would love to hear about your experiences, knowledge and options regarding the V-10. And I would also like to thank everyone who has commented, informed and directed me to other sources in my journey to learning. This is a great forum and you all seem to have much patience and understanding. Thank you for that
