I posted this OP question originally on December 27, 2016, and it is Almost April 2, 2017 now (not going into the April Fools rabbit hole
. I point this out only because some of my questions were, well quite silly, based upon what I have learned since December.
The 2017 F-550 chassis comes in three (3) models with three engine options, two gas and one diesel. Apparently, the Born Free RV model I am looking at (Imperial) comes with the V-10 and is the XL model with the XLT trim upgrade.
And yes it seems I can add the options to the chassis since it is being ordered new. I actually down;loaded the 2017 options sheet and it is in PDF form which I save. Unfortunately, Adobe saves it on my computer but doesn't let me, as far as I know, determine which website I downloaded it from on line so I could put the link to it here.
I don't know much about the V-8 engine option but it seems to have less horsepower and torque than the V-10. (Word is the V-10 maybe going bye-bye in 2019).
Anyway, the "big" difference for the 2017 F-550 Super Duty models is the "boxed" (vs C channel) cab only, the "Military grade" aluminum build and and some Tech additions. Oh, and it costs more
If anyone has comments on the 3 valve V-10 (I know at one point the spark plugs were a nightmare) I would love to hear about your experiences, knowledge and options regarding the V-10. And I would also like to thank everyone who has commented, informed and directed me to other sources in my journey to learning. This is a great forum and you all seem to have much patience and understanding. Thank you for that
