What is the function this?

On my 2000 E450 at the bottom of the driver-side
dash; on the very bottom extreme right edge, is a metal
bracket that is made into the dash support.
It is approx 1/2 inch by 2 inches.

In that bracket are two, what looks like white nylon buttons.
They do not seem to move.

There are two wires going form the back of that bracket
and "buttons", into the wiring harness that contains
the leads to the diagnostic port.

There is also a tag on it that says "Test".

Nothing is the "wonderful" Chilton's book or the
2000 E450 Ford owners manual about it.

Anyone know the function?

No picture right now.

It is as described and you have to lay on the floor
looking up to see it. It is NOT visible from the
driving position.

You can run your hand along the edge and feel it

It is apparently factory installed as it is made into
the dash support.

I found the "Test" label on the wire interesting also
the bundle of wires it comes out of is to the diagnostic plug.

I thought someone else with a E450 might know
what it is.

I have an E450 and don't see what you are describing. Mine is a 2004 though. It would be better with a picture.

Pictures. Not great pictures.

Unfolded tag: says "Brake test".
Is that something for factory installed
tow electric brakes?

Photos did not show up...flickr - unavailable.

They may be the copilot ejection button or possibly the remote tank dump buttons.
